The problem is that other species, while having the will to survive, have limited means to ensure their survival. Humans, either through evolution or some theological action, has the capability of making significant changes to the environment, that affect other species greatly, with out necessarily having the wisdom to make such decisions.
Some would consider this capability an advantage, others a scary liability.

I would be in the former group. Being a true omnivore I think of the world, nay the solar system and everything in it as our own personal sandbox to play and pee in to our hearts content. We especially own all those tasty animals whose hides clad my feet and keep my britches from falling down...:D
Yeah we might mess up all this grandeur (or weed covered chunk of nowhere depending on your cosmic viewpoint) but we are contained to our tiny piece of it until we get the ability to spread beyond our solar system. That will not happen soon and by then we will have worked out our ability to sustain ourselves. We'd have to. After all it's a long long way out to other stars. |
