First computer game I ever played was "The Oregon Trail", Apple II.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ore...l_(video_game) Then I played "Choplifter" and "Robot Odyssey" a good bit. However my favorite games of the mid 80's were "The Dam Busters", and "Silent Service". I wore them out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choplifter http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robot_Odyssey http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dam...s_(video_game) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silent_...e_(video_game) A memory i have about MicroProse & Silent Service was that when I first got the game, It was not playable. No matter which direction you went, or the depth you held, you would always hit a mine. It frustrated me for weeks, trying to play the game, and get around it. I finally wrote them a letter, explaining my frustration, and that i felt the disk (5-1/4 floppy back then, lol) had a corrupted file on it. To my surprise about two weeks later i got package with a new disk, and a letter apologizing for the inconvience. The new disk worked like a charm, and I was one happy sub captain! :yep: I kept the letter for a long time, but over the years I lost track of it. Still wish i had it though. |

I had a comparible solo game by Tandy. Same concept - the ball was the bright red light :). Changing the sport (hockey, football, basketball) was done by switching the plastic insert. http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/6315/tandyb.jpg |
First game ever would be Space Invaders (on a little hand held console in which the Aliens were just little dots moving about ), first Arcade game I really got into, Defender and first home computer game was Elite (on the Speccy) and yes I also used a Lenslok. Horrid things they were. :hmmm:

We had a pong type game (not Pong itself) when I was very little, it had modes like hockey and tennis, but was still basically pong. We also had a breakout console that was again about a dozen variants of the same theme.
First computer games were on a VIC 20, but were mostly cartridge based then I moved to the C64 and things got real with games like Bard's Tale and Ultima. Even ran a BBS in Houston for a while that was sort of gaming and fantasy oriented. The first arcade game I got really in to was Missile Command and I tore Defender up when it rolled around, but mainly if I was going to spend quarters it was air hockey and foosball, even wound up working in an arcade for a while in my late teens. |
If you have not hunted a wumpus, you should not be allowed to use the term "old school game" :D

My first computer game/simulation was MicroProse's B-17 Flying Fortress "The Mighty 8th" back in 2000. At 45.00 it was one of the most expensive for that time. Falcon 4 was the next on bought, and also expensive for back then. But at least Falcon 4 has been updated.
