Good thing that beer fish looks more like a Pickerel than it does a Whale.

Let me wipe the nervous sweat from my brow!

Back when I was a devout believer Jonah was always one of my favorite stories. This wasn't because of the whale, but because everybody always seemed to focus on the whale and miss the whole point of the story, which was that God told Jonah to preach to the people of Nineveh, and if they repented God would allow them to live. Jonah hated the Ninevites, and didn't want them to live, which was the whole point of his running away. He figured that if he didn't preach to them they couldn't repent, and God would have to destroy them. Jonah thought he could outwit God, which didn't work out quite like he planned. :sunny:

Follow up to the true story about Nineveh which I heard Jonah warned the population fifty years earlier (although I can not prove this of course)

The Destruction of Nineveh in 612 : sounds like 1945, uh?http://www.yahwehsword.org/s_destruction/31_destruction_of_nineveh.htm

after a long siege of Nineveh in the month of Ab (July-August) 612. According to the historian Abydenus, Sarakos, king of the Assyrians, burnt himself alive in his palace together with his wives and children rather than fall into the hands of the besiegers.
Once Nineveh had fallen Assyria no longer existed

Then you shouldn't make claims for "truth" unless you can back them up.

That's a fair point. The problem is that faith can believe a story or not, but faith doesn't make it a "true story".

You are right Steve. On the other hand if one knows for sure that something is 'true', he doesn't need any faith to believe it.

I truly believe it's a story. :D
