Ah! Kewl thanks! :) |
the only way to please Uncle karl is to freaking Die.
Never ever give that slacker any kind of satisfaction, you hear? |
The skill in SH is navigation. Shadow them a bit and wait for a better position (although they may be a mini-coastal convoy, headed for a very close-by port).

Well heres what I did:
(BTW apologies. when I said 'in 18m of water' I meant, depth under keel. I was at periscope depth at the time.) I moved in to about 2km, and sat on the bottom. Once the convoy had passed directly in front of me and was at about 30 degrees, I rose to periscope depth, let fly with my three eels, and immediately made a flank speed run in the exact opposite direction of the convoy. Slightly disappointing outcome in terms of tonnage, I only had one hit, on a small merchant, but he went to the bottom in any case. The rear escorts started heading my way and I eased off a little and dived to 30m, skimming the bottom a little, slight damage to my bow torpedo room  A few random depth charge runs later, and with slight damage to my watchtower, I made it to safety. Now all the while I didn't hear a single ping, and I can only assume they didn't have ASDIC, would that figure? They definitely knew my rough location, so I'm certain if they had ASDIC they would have used it, and with hindsight would definitely have been dead. All in all a good result, I live to fight another day, and have shown the British that they better not get complacent. :arrgh!: |
Let 'em go. You're caught in shallow water with nowhere to go in a sub that can't outrun anything.

Thats better than nothing, well my recommendation is to change your sub asap , II A was for WWI and many commanders upgraded to VIIB till 1940.
Once, I attacked a "Task Force" , I think the year in game was 1940 January, first I could only see SouthHampon Class (10 K tonnage) then I noticed there is something even bigger than that in the convoy : A Illustrious Class (Flight Carrier),I had only 3 torpedoes left, thinking I will never get a second chance to shot I launched all of them, 3 successfully hits and It sunk as soon as 3rd torpedo hit it. Now the problem was, even deep under keel was over 1000 meters, I wasn't able to dive deeper than 20 meters because earlier I had lots of 1 to 1 fights surfaced with my deck gun with ASW Trawlers and A&B Classes and my Hull was nearly fully damaged (%3.1 in patrol end). I did heared some ping but they never found me and I slipped between them :D I think the crew was just trainees since I made my approach surfaced at 18 knots, there was a bit fog but if the crew was efficient they will had seen me since I was able to clearly see them. |

http://www.vesikko.fi/vesikkofi/ And some great 360 panoramas: http://www.kolumbus.fi/mika.ajomaa/Panorama_2.html I love my TypeII, dives in a flash and is pretty nimble, I've been toying with the idea of upgrading to a larger boat for the last couple of patrols, but I am really enjoying my coastal campaign :) I think this thread is going slightly off topic, oops. |
I would personally attack nightfall decks awash from +1500m. One juicy target 2 eeels.
Impact pistol , dont do magnetic at 18m . Shoot, turn and get the hell out of there decks awash to deeper water. |
