Thanks, William Munny, you answered my question. I'm going to buy the amazon digital download via the subsim link.

Do yourself a big favor, buy the DVD. In the long run you'll be glad you did.

AFAIK, the Amazon download puts exactly the same files on your hard drive that you get when you buy the DVD. It is not the same as Steam, or similar systems, that do not allow you to install an executable copy of the game, but instead provide a unexecutable file that can only be used after it is modified by a runtime patch from the Steam website. You can back up the Amazon install package to removable media and save it. That is a HUGE difference.

Then burn the download to a DVD for future use.

There is always the possibility a hard drive can become corrupted.

Should always back up your hard drive anyway.

That's true, but there are times that before you get to it your HHD can go poof.... right when you least expect it. ;) :yep:

If you buy a download - does it not live in your cloud forever (well as long as the company that sold you it does)

I luv clouds:D

Brentano III 03-30-13 01:06 AM

Yes, at least with Amazon, you can re-download it as many times as you want.

Viper, Game Stop is saying that within the next 5 years all PC games will be downloads only. IMO that sucks for those of us that won't use gaming consoles like XBox and PS3. Companies are catering to gaming consoles and leaving us out in the cold. There will be a day that I just give up and quit computer gaming altogether with anything new. So save all those cd and dvd games you now have. They will come in handy if you're not overly bored with what you now have. ;)
