Are there any advantages to installing Commander with GW3 cause I am considering not installing commander at all.

Game Shadow is just an annoying attempt to sell you stuff. It does no harm. On the other hand you do have StarForce. No, they don't say anything on the box, but it's there. You need to run the StarForce removal tool or go to Amazon.com and buy a newer copy. That's what I finally did, as they are very cheap. If you should make that choice be sure to use the link at the bottom of the page or in the 'Quick Links' option at the top. It will take you to a link to Amazon that guartees Subsim.com will get a small cut.

SH3 Commander is the best tool for the game ever made, arguably more important than the supermods. It works outside the game, and has several functions.

1) It lets you change several parameters, such as underwater density, wave height and gun reload rates, all with a single click of the mouse button.

2) It provides a full career for your captain, including birth date and place, training background and other things.

3) It provides a database of real crew names, separating first and last names to provide a possible 1.7 billion name combinations.

4) It provides a real historical name, cargo loadout and crew number for every ship you sink.

It does more things as well, but that should be enough to convince you.

I really don't want to get a new copy. Is removing it pretty cut and dry or am I gonna have issues? Will it mess up other games if I uninstall?

Look this post, that guy posted a solution that can solve the problem, with that fix I can play at 1920x1080 without accidentally firing torpedoes.

I think you've been flying too long. I have the same problem. I havent played SH3 in months because of a periscope issue i never solved.

I started up yesterday and fixed it. Ive died twice of the 2 times ive been in the Atlantic.

Maybe i'll just stick to my trusty Bf-109.... :hmmm:

ok, this is getting beyond frustrating. Let me tell you what is going on over here...

1. Removed everything.

2. Ran CCleaner and repaired registry.

3. Installed SH3.

4. Ran Starforce removal which then told me to restart.

5. After restart, I ran SH3 and first thing that pops up is "protection system" (Is this Starforce?) "Application installed successfully. Reboot computer to complete installation". It then asked to continue. If I say no, it does nothing so I say yes and it restarts my computer again.

6. Run SH3, says checking disk still but game starts.

7. Install Patch 1.4. Start SH3 and protection system application installed successfully again. Same as 5. So I restart again. And same crap, seems like the starforce is still there. Still can't install GWX3 and just out of ideas.

Is there a zip file containing GWX3? I tried changing EXE extension to ZIP which has worked in some cases but not this case. What am I doing wrong?

Sorry so many questions but I have dozens of games with dozens of mods attached to them and have never encountered any problems like this game is causing me.

Five bucks, already patched to 1.4, no StarForce.

No muss, no fuss, no headaches. I paid $45 for SH3 brand new, and I still bought this as soon as it was out.

"This will make every Torpedo Launch button in the game unclickable, meaning the only way to launch is to use Ctrl+Enter"

Thanks Starwolf, I actually read that post yesterday but decided I would rather sacrifice some image qualit than disable torpedo launch button.

Thanks steve I am gonna do that right now, so anything I buy now should be good to go? Dont want to get stuck with a 2005 issue again.

Yep, the version I linked to is the one I've been using for at least three years now. If you click on the Subsim Amazon link at the top right corner of the page it will take you there, and Neal gets a tiny cut as well.

well I had my girl order it on her amazon account right after you posted the link so I guess I kinda screwed neal on that one...sorry neal, but I do plan on making a donation to the site so that should even things out a bit.

I want to thank you steve and all others that have offered up their help. Should get it by the weekend so hopefully all goes smooth and I look forward to visiting the board again soon.

It's all cool. The cut is small, and I'm embarrassed to admit how many times I've ordered stuff and simply forgotten. It happens. On the other hand, every little bit helps, and donations are always welcome.

Always good to see a new SH3 player.

I've just gotten back into the game. I haven't played since probably May.

SIcane 10-19-12 10:17 PM

so I got the game tonight, installed no problem. Started up and saw 1.4 in the corner.

Went to my GWX3.exe and installed into sh3 root folder, looked good I could hear wolves in the background howling but as soon as the first file begins to install I get the same exact errors as before.

So now I am thinking I got a bad copy of GWX3, try to dl it again but both links go to Gamefront which is nothing but a refresh every second to nowhere. I feel like I am about to get hit with a virus at any time. Needless to say I was unsuccessful in downloading a new version.

I also have (and I have no idea where I got this from) 7 files that are GWX3-1 thru GWX3-7.bin What exactly are these files and where should they go?

Sailor Steve 10-19-12 11:42 PM

The seven files should all go into one folder (call it anything you like, but GWX works as good as anything). Then run the .exe. If you have them in separate places that may be why the install is failing.

If that doesn't work, go to any post by Jimbuna and follow the link above his sig. Guaranteed good file. Also it's my understanding that the one in the GWX homepage (also available from Jim's sig) is a good working copy.
