A captain, be it in a soveriegn countries Navy, or on a private vessel is the authority. His responsibility is to his passengers and crew, himself last.

Captain Smith of the Titanic went down with his ship, and he knew they were doomed. Out of duty (and maybe guilt) he stayed aboard, and saw to his charges, the best he could with the lack of lifeboats.

This guy is a wuss, I knew it when I heard the CG tapes.

Disgusting disregard for maritime law, and a slap in the face to maritime authorities. Utter cowardice in abandoning the people he was entrusted to protect. Those passengers trusted him with their lives, and he ran out on them!

Your title is not too strong. It is too weak, and only profanity can express what this man is. Coward is being nice.

You're right in every word and what's the worst of it, is that will not be the last time a captain behave disgracefull or unpredictable in case of a disaster.

Look up the story of Scandinavian Star-Even that capt. left the boat long before the last passanger was evacuated.

After have read the danish and swedish newspaper right after the accident I came to the conclusion that the border of Costa also have their part of the guilt. They know that he was a show-off type and other stuff and therefor should never have been promoted to Captain of his own boat.

I also remember an article in Aftonbladet.se It was about the education of
today's captain and that they aren't trained in certain problems, like airline-pilotes are

Yeah Markus.

There was even initial reports that the cruise line encouraged close encounters with the scenic shores, to impress passengers. But I dismissed it as the Captain covering his own ass.

While I could believe it, I cannot forgive this man, based solely on his actions afterwards.

He was the complete opposite of helpful. Utterly evasive and, yellowbellied when ordered by maritime authorities to man up.

I don't know about you, but there is something emasculating about another man having to tell you to go man up, and deal with your mess. He may as well amputate his testes , he is not deserving of them.:nope: He lacks any fortitude in them, so off they go!

Pardon my crudeness. But a man (or woman, I am an equal opportunity fella) who is chosen to lead should lead. This is a wimp who wanted the status of leadership, but not the huge responsibility that comes with it, including the worse possible scenario.

This is a sad thing, easily prevented, he could have even made a hero of himself if he stayed onboard while it listed for days. Maybe hold an acetylene gas can while a rescuer cut into the bulkheads...something besides running away.
