Cool photos Jim, I love the Spit.

I have a question I've been meaning to ask you, as to your location and obvious interest in aviation. My father was station at Middleton St. George during the war. He was an aircraft mechanic and member of No. 6 Group RCAF, specifically 428 Squadron. I understand that this field is now Durham Tees Valley Airport. Just wondering if you have ever been there? :salute:

A few years ago, booked on a flight to Gibraltar.

A little bit further down and you could've gone to Waddington Airshow.

Next time you go, which should be in about 2014 the rate you're going, let us know beforehand and I'm sure a few more could tag along and have our own North of England meet. :sunny:

Waddington was good this year I hear and yes the UK element should organise a mini meet or better still SubSim should give London another go as a venue.

She was extremely brave waiting in the canteen with what I now know were multiple fractures to her elbow.

Jim,

Some interesting and different aircraft I have not seen before. The aircraft with the number 50 on the nose, what was it designed to do(other than fly :shifty:)? Bomber?

that's a nimrod. you may remember them from playing GIUK scenarios in Harpoon.

They are a long range ASW patrol plane (i think the long tail boom is the MAD). Some were modified to be AEW, i think. But playing harpoon, the nimrod rocked! Worth two orions.

the funny one that looks like a 1950's plane-of-the-future is the Handley Page Victor nuclear bomber, later used as mid-air tanker into the 90s.

Spent many a night operating them in Harpoon Admirals Edition...a lethal ASW asset.

The other as you rightly state was one of the V bombers.

The Museum was just out of reach for us, so thanks for the pics to show me what I missed. I'm a bit spoilt when it comes to air museums though because I've been to the RAF Museum at Hendon, which if you ever find yourself going back to school Jim (:03:) is well worth a look in, and it's free!

Yeah, once done an anti - riot course with the Met down at Hendon.

Sorry, Jim, just realised I got Elvington and Eden Camp mixed up, well they aren't exactly a million miles apart.

Yeah they are really quite close.

Jim, Cosford is like Duxford just a shade smaller not much I must say. Well worth a visit they got a ME-262 and a good collection of aircraft engines and missiles as well. I went up on the train, bit of a walk from the country station but well worth it.

BTW: Nice pics.

On my list of places to visit...never seem to find the time since I retired.

I'll try to put the rest up tomorrow when I get in from work...actually got inside a Dakota for the first time as well.

Hoping your right :sunny:

Those cold pommy winters do nothing for the paint jobs on those birds. They would cost a bomb to keep looking close to airworthy I'd expect.

It's looking like three dead (one confirmed and search called off) and one critical :nope:

Halifax? Didn't know there were any fully on display, that's great news - and I really should get off my bum and go there as it's only 50 miles away, or 15 when I go on holiday in August. :D

Just got to influence the wife and kids now. :/\\!!
