@Tarjak and Tribesmen, yes admitadly the selection in biast, there are more powerful photos out there that we know of, Im guessing they wanted to go for powerful without the 'shocking' and 'depressing' so burning monks and children have obviously been excluded.

To be fair to the author though, the title is "40 of the most" not "The top 40 most" ;)

Fair enough Francis. I just get a bit cynical when so called "news" outlets drop out of reporting and into opinion forming. This is probably one of the more harmless examples.

I'm sorry, but many of those pictures just don't belong.

Also they had the photo of the Earth from Apollo 8 but not Aldrin saluting the flag from Apollo 11. :hmmm:

And they almost never show that photo as taken. The horizon should be vertical.

Aye,
can't have a men's friend to be more loyal then that.
also found the one where the dog is reunited with the owner in Japan 2011 also quite moving.

Overlord is known at the whole planet, but how many people would now Mount Suribachi? Maybe some would now the Names of the Major battles of the PTO, but i'm not even sure about that.
Same goes for the Korean war, ask some of your friends about battles like Triangle Hill, Bowling Alley, Heartbreak Ridge (be sure most will only know a Clint Eastwood movie) Operation Killer or Outpost Harry.
Most of them maybe know the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir... i'm sure you get the point.
