Thanks for the warm welcome, @all.

I see, people are still talking quite a lot about Dangerous Waters. I've been playing this on and off for many years, but only recently I learned there is now a way to run this on Windows 8.1 with the Direct3d patch. So I reinstalled instantly :)

Other than that, I'm more an aircraft guy, mostly on Falcon 4 BMS. The only other submarine sim that I thoroughly enjoy is SH3 with GWX, and - to some extent - SH4.

That's correct.

DW can only run in 1600x1200 if the monitor (and video card of course) supports a *vertical* resolution of equal or more than 1200 pixels. Now most if not all halfway modern video cards have no problem with such a resolution, but many laptops or even desktop displays are 16:9 with resolutions like 1920x1080 for example.

So if one has a 1920x1200 16:10 display (or anything larger), it can. Otherwise it can not.

Hey guys !
I've jumped on DW recently, and I've been fiddling with it to make it run as best as possible on my hardware.

I'm using a 3440*1440 monitor as my main display, so no issue on that side when using 1600*1200, but my secondary rig has a 1080p display, so some workaround was needed.
I just wanted to post here that 1600*1200 seems to be available if you run your desktop at a higher resolution than what it can physically display, using Nvidia DSR or AMD VSR supersampling techniques. In my case, I've defined a custom resolution for my 1920*1080 panel that allows me to render DW at full resolution, before downscaling it to fit the screen. The custom resolution I run at is 2133*1200 (1200 pixels vertical, 16:9 ratio), which allows me to set the game to 1600*1200.

Cheers. :03:
