In another forum former Navy officer cursed U.S. military's handling of this incident. Reason was that by burning those books military missed an propaganda opportunity. When Taliban's started using Quran as messaging tool they itself desecrated the Holy Book. Not so serious offence as burning it improperly but still worthy for propaganda spin.
P.S. Quran can be disposed by burning as long as remains are collected and respectfully buried to ground. |
I am sure that the media outlets in the rest of the world are as reliable as the one in the US and that some people in other nations are as susceptible to misinformation as Americans are.
The ones that went off more than likely heard a blown out of proportion story and believed it.I mean just listen to what you can hear people say in passing conversations about any given world event it is amazing how it becomes a game of "telephone" (that game where someone says something in one persons ear it then goes from person to the next around the room it it never ends in the same wording as it started). The rioters probably heard some story about the American military having trained monkeys who went around grabbing Qurans crapping on their pages and then setting them alight with Zippo lighters. In the story they heard the Taliban PWs where writing poems about walking in fields picking daisies and planting IEBs Improvised Emotional Bouquets. |
sorry for the late but unintelligent reply, wasn't on here for some days, thread went to page 2, yada, yada...

Some used the rhetoric weapon of irony or exaggeration to make a point, with soopaman who probably exaggerated the most: that the Taliban are already in the Bronze Age :haha:... Though I must admit that I thought that the general literature distribution rack would be something like a field substitute for a library, hence "general", I didn't know that there are only religious texts there. We have libraries in Germany that are managed by the church which also have non-religious literature, though I doubt you'll find the Satanic Bible there.;) So, as I said in a previous post: the intention behind it is pretty clear, well good intentions mean nothing. It's a disgrace to the troops over there, not to trust them to do their tour in a professional way. Why are some crackpots raging over one particular incident? Because it's a man-bites-dog situation. If there were hundreds of Quran "desecrations" they would not point to one specific case. Also the point still stands that this is an appeasement to the crazy Muslims - as the non-crazies don't go apecrap over this. It is useless to appease to the hardcore fraction, they hate you anyway, no matter what you do. If you would bomb them with candy they would still rage:"Look, what those dogs want to do to our teeth!" :88) Another thing which non of you could disprove is the non-equal treatment of the different religions and their worshippers. Finally: what is really protecting our troops is not to send them there in the first place. Cheers from a proud draft dodger :salute: |
