See, Kpt Krenn?

Much better :DL

Yes, the sim is pretty much hooey right out of the box, but you'll find no better community to turn it into pure Awesome! than this one. Just requires a little work, and we're here to help. :)

If you think it's crap now you should have seen it back when it was released. It was a nightmare. Anyway, Ubisoft have added a few patches now, fixing a few things, so make sure these are applied as automatic updates before you start using any mods.

Then install JSGME - if you are not familiar with it then this a little utility that simplifies installing and activating mods.

I suggest you start by taking a look at The Dark Wraith's NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0 mod. That gives you all the old SH3 / Sh4 controls back, such as the Helm, and more. It will give you a idea as to the quality of some of the mods that are available, and how much difference they can make.

With some mods the game gets really nice.

At first I wanted to insert a funny here but instead I'll just say that; Krenn, Mod it up. I'll bet your SH3 game isn't stock either. This Sim is just like SH3-4 in that you've got to mod it up. Remember, that's part of the fun. My version of SH 3, 4 and 5 doesn't look or play exactly like anyone else's, that's part of the fun.
I was scared the first night I played the tutorial, I loved the storyline then when I torpedoed my first ship it went straight up into the air slowly and came back down. I was floored too! Then when I loaded up the mods it all came together as the best/my favorite SH sim.
I really hope you give it a good chance before dropping it.
Welcome back.
