i was certainly not bragging. i am a kid with a new toy - worked and saved hard to achieve it too. my old rig was six years old and failing fast. the motherboard was dying. stuff was leaking out of some silvery things?

with 'My ancient creaky single-core system' i had to use AlacrityPC wich is great by the way - for all creaky single-core systems. it enabled me to shut down something like 90+ back ground programmes, much better than GameBooster but a bit of a bugger to set up and keep stable. yet it freed up my Boat to sail, cant ask much more than that.

@jimbuna. i have both CCLeaner and Malwarebytes used to have RegVac too maybe i'll pop that back on.

Are you saying just W7 speeds up loading?
absolutley! its a new machine. like jimbuna says its about a minute and a half from click to sail...better than my old 10 minutes plus!!....

@frau kaleun...thanks for your support, and you hit the nail on the head:salute:

and because you asked so nicely SS and didnt kick my door in - i nearly did'nt by the way - bit shocked at your needless accusation:06:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 Processor 3.4Ghz
Memory 8192MB RAM
DirectX 11
Chip Type GeForce GT240

@ HB i know it will slow down in the end - we all do. but i dont keep a lot of that stuff on my computer. it is mainly email photos and music and a couple of games like CODWAW and Assasins Creed for my son - but thanks for the cheery input:woot:

it really happend

...i was in town today when i met a friend of mine who i dont see so often. he was with his partner who has never met me. he introduced me to his partner:

'this is Heinrich, (my assumed name he likes to use) he is a U Boat Captain..'

'No! - you're German?' she says 'oh my god thats amazing!'

i smiled and said 'Gutten Dag.'

'Yes.' he says. with his ironic smile 'On his computer Sim.'

she looked at me for a moment, i smiled acknowledging the reality, in a courteous German manner, drawing my heels together gently - then she looked back at her partner.

'you silly pair of buggers!'

my son said 'god Dad - she really believed you!'

and for a moment, so did I!:DL

I know the feeling! When I built this rig 3 years ago, I was like a kid with on Christmas Day. For 6 years I too struggled with a cobbled frankenstein system I kept trying to upgrade and games were still sluggish. Had to play with reduced graphics quality, blah, blah, blah.................

So when opportunity knocked, I took advantage and put together this one.

And the only upgrades since building it, is the addition of more ram, so I have 8 gigs, and I improved graphics from the SLI 8800 GTS cards, to 2 GTX 260 cards in SLI.

It's nice now as SH3 and SH4 load up fine, in a minute or 2.

The only sims that take a bit still, and can still momentarily glitch in the video are Over Flanders Fields, and BoB II Wings Of Valor. The former because of the very high quality and high resolution artfiles for the planes, and the loads of things going on at ground level like trench battles and all that fun suff. The latter just from the ammount of planes in the air at any given time, especially the mass bomber formations during the London Phase of the BoB. The potential is there for 1400 aircraft battling it out over 800nm, and leading a squadron of Hurricanes or Spitfires into a big furball like that can really tax the system.
