This is not all that unusual of a reaction. We have it in this country also. When bystanders are in a group, no one wants to be the first and people think "someone else" will take action.
We have people bleeding out in front of bystanders here. It does not mean that the bystanders are bad people. It is an unfortunate form of group psychology.
What is especially terrible about the instances here is that the bystanders are not ignoring the injured but are too busy recording it on their stupid cell phones to render aid.
That's what really disgusts me. I can understand group psychology resulting in people not taking action. I can't understand people more interested in taking pictures then rendering aid, or even using that cell phone not to take pictures but to call EMS.
Cell phones were not widespread when I was on the squads, but we had plenty of runs where there were bystanders just standing by.
It is human nature. Not a particularly good form of human nature, but one that is understandable.
