Of course, that in turn adds a large overhead on top of an already expensive trade, although I imagine the oil and LNG companies will be able to afford it easily.

Already under consideration...

In July, Foreign Office Minister Henry Bellingham told a committee of MPs that limited resources in the light of current military commitments could not allow Royal Marines to do the same.
However, he said the government was considering allowing private armed guards to be posted on British merchant vessels.

That would be quite a weapon for Q-ship or merchantman. It could even have some deterrence value. I'm just worried that pirates may make following calculation:
AK-47 + L9 = no $$$
MM38 + L9 = $$$ (if showing it was enough)

Show me one pirate who has access and firing capibilities to an Exocet missile and I will post my wifes nudes on this website.:woot:

First show us non-nudes, so I can see whether the effort to sell them one and take a picture of them with it is worth the effort :D

Pirates are businessmen - if getting them is worth of effort then they will get them but I admit that getting something like ex-Soviet 3M24s maybe easier.
