Excuse me guys, not playing SH5, but I "lurk" here from time to time.
Instead of starting a thread whenever the Ubi servers are down why don't you make a "sticky" and post there for all related problems. Besides the comic aspect of it (a "permanent" thread for "permanently" unattainable "permanent" connections) it is completely logical to do so, as people having these kind of problems want to find if its a "general" or a localized problem.

Again excuse me for intruding.

I don't have SH5 either, but I feel just the opposite. If a new thread is started every time the servers are down it shows better how lame the whole DRM thing really is. There are many of us who will buy it when this thing is finally removed, and the sooner UBI figures that out the better.

100 page sticky thread might achieve a similar aim! :D It would be a little cleaner, though it might suffer from regular locking as the DRM is an easy troll-topic. :O:

With the way the DRM is now I think it's a shame to not get SH5 just because the activation is still present (I'm sure that's not the only reason, but still..). There's so much good work being done on the mods, especially with the new Privateer/TDW team working on the real guts of the sim, it's a different beast already and will only get better.

Your call though and kudos to your willpower :salute:

How could it work without DRM:06:

I would hate to have my cd in the pc to play.
For me - I always have the internet on so DRM is easier:oops:

I guess it could be like steam - with online first load to reg - then have setting for offline mode.

A good point. The more I think about it the more I think you might be right. If there had been one from the beginning it would probably be that long by now. That might prove a point.

Actually for me it is the only reason. I was all set to pre-order it when they announced this. At the time I had a terrible connection, and that was the reason I gave, but as time went on I realized that I had said I wouldn't buy it as long as the DRM was there, and to go back on that now would be to betray any honor I have left, so I can't and won't. On the other hand I like to think that if no one at all had bought it, and given that reason, the DRM might have been gone within a week.

But probably not. I live in my own little dream world.

I've been keeping up with them from day one. But even if I bought it today I don't have a computer that will run it, and given the way I think I probably won't be interested in playing it until I can run a Type II.

I don't know what you're talking about. I have SH3 and SH4, with discs, and neither one requires the disc in the drive to run it. I have a spare Data folder for each on my hard drive, and I don't even need the disc in the drive to re-install them. I don't do anything to start the game but click on the icon.

Fair enough, I had a feeling it was more that than any practical difficulty. I have a similar thing with Codemasters after their Operation Flashpoint debacle.

Actually SH5 is the weak-link in my general hatred of online DRM; more than once I've come unstuck in a discussion on the subject simply for owning it, but my defence has always been that subsims need that extra support in order to continue their existence, and that a subsim with some wonky DRM is better than no subsim at all. ;)

Anyways enough of my thread-derailing! :salute:

Which is exactly why I bought SH4 sight-unseen and was going to do the same with SH5. I just drew the line at the DRM, and haven't crossed it. You'd be surprised at how many people said the same thing I did and then suddenly "recieved it as a gift".

This is a thread about DRM not working properly. How can you derail it by talking about the DRM? :sunny:

True! And yeah I bet there were a few  faces when that happened! :har:

I still drop back to SH4 from time to time (it's where I started, learned the hard way at the hands of Ducimus' evil DD's!), and I do miss the 'feel' of it (though I think some of that is the TDC difference between Uboat/Fleet Boat). But the graphics on 5.. and it's pitiable that I'm such an eye-candy whore.. every time I go to 4 I have one patrol and want to be back in 5 again! DRM doesn't even enter the equasion for me now, it's more 'do I want to be punished' (4), or 'do I want to enjoy the waves' (5)! :haha:

I know exactly how you feel. I still like SH3 because of all the things Commander brings to the table, but the best actual simulation as far as gameplay goes is still Aces Of The Deep. I Have it on my computer, but every time I play it I'm reminded of how good SH3 looks in comparison. So if you think SH3 looks bad, think of how AOD must look. But it still plays so well. But it still looks so old. SH1 is still a great game too, but SH4 really does a lot more, so it's not as bad in that regard.

I'm still waiting on the DRM to go away. A friend of mine had the game, I saw it and even played it on his rig a bit. Still, won't part with my money till the DRM disappears.

Once it does, I'll have a new toy!
