The Indy's website, like the newspaper, carries adverts. Those adverts pay for staff and freelancers. The more of an article you reproduce (or the more places it is available to view) the fewer views there are on the newspaper's site -- simple supply and demand. The fewer views there are on the newspaper's site, the less advertising revenue they receive. The less advertising revenue they receive, the less freelancers like me get paid.

Which is why I have to be an arsehole about it. Sorry.
