I held off getting SH5 as the reviews I read confirmed my worse fears. Then a squadmate got it and said that there were a load of mods availible that made it worth getting.
So i did and was impressed by the graphics and full 3d sub interior. With a plethora of mods i thought i was set. Unfortuanatley its not there yet. SH5 looks like a great subsim, SH3 is a great subsim (with all the mods). So in anycase it reignited my love for SH3, so no complaints really. Ill try again in another 12 months. |
As long as SH 5 has DRM. Not even considering it. GWX 3 is most satisfying:salute::salute::salute:

I'll probably get SH5 when I have a computer that can run it. It looks like with all the mods, it will turn in to a pretty good game.
It will never replace SH3 though. If/when I get it, I will continue to play SH3 and SH4 depending on the mood. I find it amazing how SH3 is continuing to grow with the great work done by all the modders out there, especially the work done by h.sie and Stiebler with their hard-code fixes. Their work has been miraculous and has opened so many possibilities with SH3 that will make the game playable for a long time. I've even seen the word "wolfpack" pop up in the thread about the fixes that has me vibrating. Who knows what kind of magic they are working on. |
@sharkbit: soon there will come some details......;)

If they ever release a version of Silent Hunter 5 where an internet connection is not required to play, then I might get it. Other than that, sorry...Silent Hunter 3 with SH3 Commander and the latest GWX pack is fine with me. -Matt |
SH3 - SH5
Well, there is some good parts in SH3 it is several diffent subs - that is fun and of cause snorkel for example..
SH4 for realism - Silent Hunter 4 is still a great game:yeah: SH5 for the way to walk around in the sub - still i miss more dramatic situations with more waterlevel and a way to make th sub more safe when all doors in sub are closed - tho prevent the whole sub to sink when waterlevel raise inside.. Sometimes it feels like the sub sink of any reason - but you don't know why, any warnings before serious damage would be great.... All the serie of Silent Hunter has something good - a dream would be, all the good parts from all these and make one very good simulator game... That would be something  |

I tried SH5 then I realized that there is actually no "moving to SH5" for a GWX junkie like me. I don't like the sonar, I don't like the deck watch, I can't fine tune the instruments I need, the enemy AI and so the overall feel is sadly inferior. Sure it has great graphics, but sadly, like most games being released these days, over emphasis on "better graphics" is supposed to be the most attractive feature in a game, but I disagree. Its good to have better graphics, but its not everything, perhaps unless its a brainless first person shooter meant for kiddies. Its good to be able to walk in your boat, and its a great idea although a weak effort and implementation by ubisoft, you quickly realize that when your crew members keep repeating the same dialogues or after a few times using the ladder. The RPG style points are a good addition but hard to accumulate when there is not much challenge in or motivation to go out and test your art of wolfing the sheperd's fattest of sheep again and again and again and laughing at their frenzied depth charging way aft of you.
I realize that I need GWX for all that. |
