Not sure if it is a tutorial...more like a "works for me" kind of write-up. :D
But I do hope that other people have some benefit from it. Let me know how you fare and if you run into any problems. I may be able to update that post so that it becomes more useful.

One odd thing that I have noticed is that my self-compiled version of wine seems less compatible with pulseaudio. Another is that smoke isn't really black, more like a dull grey but I may have to fiddle about with some graphics settings. Here is an idea of how it looks on my machine:

Without the patch: no smoke, no wake visible, no spray effects.

Very nice. Looks much better IMHO. I'll definitly post back here when I try it - but that'll be a while due to RL.

You may well already know this... $ ./configure --help will give you a list of every available compile option - and often the default settings for those options. There may be some pulseaudio specific settings that need to be explicitly enabled.
