If it was 90 billion I'd buy myself a small country.
Think of the possibilities Castout, be like Ghaddafi, be a tyrant and you can finally dictate to the UN. :haha::salute:

Blow a 100 000 on some R&R, the rest I'd invest in realestates. Then the profit from the investement would be used for more investement and so on and so on. And when I'm 40 I'd milk the cashcow and go into politics

If you had to buy your citizenship would that not go against human rights somehow?

$9m, that's only £5.58m :o

Nice house and some land, decent (but not brand new) bike and car.

Quit my job, travel a bit, then come home and then further my education.

Hmmppf . . . . . .there's a saying you do not appreciate what you have until you've lost them. In my book Western Europeans and then Americans could count themselves lucky in terms of civil liberties.

Exactly You need at least 90 billion to be a tyrant of a nation. Come to think of it, because the oppressed are probably oppressed even by other [willingly and happily] oppressed people, the only way for one to be free from oppression is to become the oppressor :haha:

But if you need that book you're probably hopeless :O:

BossMark 07-14-11 06:35 AM

Well for starters I would get pissed walk round to my bosses house and punch him on the nose, then me and my Russian girlfriend would go somewhere nice for a few months. :D

I'm finn so I answer from (hypotethical) point of view of winner of our national lottery. Ofcourse I would need SEVEN numbers match.

Quote:

What do you do?
I would sleep to next morning and check if I was still a winner. :yep:

Go to work tomorrow?[/QUOTE]

As I'm unemployed at the moment - no. Would like to though...

Quote:

Go to the state lottery headquarters bright and early in the morning (a 3 hour drive for me).
Only if that is compulsory.

Do you drive yourself or hire a town car and a pro driver? (Nothing like getting killed on I-10 on the way to collect $9 million :dead:)
I don't have driver's licence so I would have to take a town car. I would prefer flying in business class as it's a bit over 300 km to lottery company's headquarters. Ofcourse I would need a taxi for short journey but hey I have a money!

Quote:

Get in touch with a financial advisor?
Absolutely although if I march to bank with $9 mil dollars I would propably have meeting with bank manager...

Quote:

Who do you tell? Anyone? No one?
Only to my best friend as he is only one who I know to be able to keep his mouth shut up.

Quote:

So, you collect the $$$, I assume it goes into multiple bank accounts. What's next? Quit your job? What do you tell them?
I would continue business as usual. I like my life as its now, except that I would like to have job, so I would prefer low profile.

What about the wife? Stay married or split the dough 50/50 and start planning parties that would put Hugh Hefner to shame?
Unfortunately I don't have wife so I can't really answer to this one yet.

Quote:

How would you invest it?
I would propably put atleast 50% into secure bank account as use rest to launch small scale investment business. Only problem is how to maintain low profile? :hmmm:

Quote:

What would you change about your life?
Don't know really.

Quote:

What's the very first thing you would spend it on?
Propably upgrade my microwave oven. Current is older than me. It was bought by my parents in 1982. :haha:

No, i'd take a personal day. How could anyone concentrate on work in those circumstances?

I'd be there when they opened. (1/2 hour drive for me)

If that happened I wouldn't be around to regret it so yeah i'd just drive myself.

No, I wouldn't be investing my winnings in stocks and bonds.

The wife at first but nobody else until the prize check is safely deposited.

I'd quit my job and i'd tell them the truth.

I'm happily married.

Land

I'd get rid of this spare tire around my waist. Maybe buy a new car.

Quote:

Pay off the mortgage.

^this

Except that I would only punch the director on the nose, I would tell my chiefboss about the money and about his advice how to invest it. He'd probably say something like "my condolences", lol

I would certainly spend half of the money in making a cool movie, or maybe two, one including lightly clad redheads on u-boats ;)

Then I realize that we are talking about US$, so I would probably spend it on a can of beer and pay the rest of the amount with my own money :O:

What's remarkable, is that none of the members here is so patriotic and would pay off a little of his country's debts :haha:

kiwi_2005 07-14-11 07:57 AM

9 million.

I would keep 6 million for myself and give the rest away to charity organizations this is my promise to myself if I ever won big in lotto depending on how much I would win.

1 million to starship hospital (kids with cancer)

1 million to Prostate charity - prostate cancer, woman get funded here for breast cancer where couple hundred die each year, men's prostate doesn't get funded and over 600 die from it each year. Crazy so 1 mill to them.

1 Million to food banks = Organization that feed the homeless.

6 million left for me & my sons. No relations would get a cent not even my sisters cause they're fine they don't need any. Plus they will never know I won.:arrgh!:

Buy a new home, couple of vehicles one for the road one for off road. Leave my job? Yup but still work buy a business and have people working under me. Invest some in real estate & sit back and enjoy the rest of my life.

mookiemookie 07-14-11 08:34 AM

I would indeed go to work the next day. I'd probably even keep my job. Relatively low stress, short commute, good people around me.

Another reason I'd go to work is to talk to my buddies on our municipal bond desk. I'd tell them to set up a muni bond ladder that earns about 4 to 5% annually. That means $360,000 to $450,000 annually, tax free, without ever touching the principal. And that's at a 4-5% yield which is low on average. When rates rise, it'll be even more.

I'd buy a nice house around here - maybe around $500k to $800k. Nothing obnoxious, but very comfortable. I'd hire the maid and gardener as well. I'm a man of means, dammit. No more of this plebeian housework for me! I'd probably get a car around $100k. I don't need a fancy sports car. I hate driving stick shift.

My fiancee and I would probably travel, see the world.

Probably a pretty conservative vision, but hey, I wanna keep as much of it as I can.

Herr-Berbunch 07-14-11 08:36 AM

Ooh, I'd finally be able to afford to take up skydiving again :D
