I don't think that's the issue, IF or If not someone would put their life on the line for their daughter.
The question is IF you are successful each and every single time you attempt to disarm armed louts.

I would put my life on the line for my daughters in a heart beat, but, and that's a big but, is it a winnable situation?
Would it save my daughters if i died attempting to disarm them/him/her?
