The cause is trying to 'merge' two textures into one without alpha blending. The 'ice' texture is trying to be overlaid onto the normal ship's texture and that is where the flickering is coming from.

It happens on any and all objects when viewed from a distance. Probably a hardware/driver-level problem?

As wrote on a different thread:
I face flickering textures because of a mod I used to change the camera behaviour (external camera). If I removed this mod, flickering was gone. I think that this mods' changes now have been included in NewUIs (TDW) and that those might cause it.

I disabled NewUIs (latest) and flickering was gone. I guess that this is the issue for my NVIDIA GTX 470.

@TDW: Could you confirm or maybe point me to the files in question so that I might try without them and confirm that this solves the problem?

Thanks!

i have the same problem, strange thing, not appear in external view, in external view I dont have any problem without a glitch, only in attack/observation scope. This with stock game, or with any mods...I dont want to roll back driver only for sh5, I play a lot of different game too.

This problem was present to some extent in the stock game, but as you said, it happened mostly in the attack/observation periscope.

This can be fixed with modding, by increasing the Zmin parameter for the cameras used in periscope mode. However increasing it too much will lead to other visual bugs. A balance needs to be found.

The bug comes from the limited precision in the Z buffer. having a very small Zmin value decreases precision in a more than linear progression.

Sorry to bump this tread but I'm having flickering texture problems too.

Here is what it is looking like :

Sometimes, depending the time of the day, it's less obvious. During the night, I don't see much of those flickers tho. Might be related?

I didn't played SH5 for a long time before buying a new videocard a couple of months ago, I've decided to give SH5 another try. I've followed instructions and installed Sober's Mega mod (I'm currently using "sobers 0600 05042013"). So playing SH5 during those couples of month with that new videocard (XFX R7970), I did notice the flickering textures. I was thinking either a bad videocard or some obscure drivers problems. So I've waited and updated the Catalyst drivers over the month, hoping to see improvement, but it didn't seem to do the trick. Thinking it's the videocard, I've decided to put back my previous one (Sapphire HD5850) just to see if my problems would be solved. To my surprise, they were not!

So yesterday I decided to try to pinpoint the origin of the problem. I've started the game and went to the Museeum. No flickers there. I've then decided to disable all mods form sober's Megamod list, went to a start a historical missions. No flickers there.

It was quite obvious that one or more mods was causing this issue. So after a loto of enabling and disabling, I've found the two mods that is causing this flickering :

- NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith
- Manos Scopes-patch for 16x9

If I enable one of those, flickering will appear in my game.

Pushing my research a little more, I decided to copy the game's original "cameras.cam" to the Manos Scope-patch mod folder and enable that mod, but still disabling "NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith". Flickers were gone!

After reading NewUIs_TDC readme file, it seem that there is a Manos Scope version integrated in it, and it would be logical since it seems that's what is causing my flickering textures.

I've taken a look in the "NewUIs_TDC_7_1_0_ByTheDarkWraith" mod folder and found a "cameras.cam" file there too. I removed it, enable that mod and disabled Mano Scopes-patch mod and there was no more flickers.

I did tried the "NewUIs_TDC_7_4_2_TheDarkWraith" version but I had the same flickering issues.

So I'm there. I know in part what is the problem (modified version cameras.cam) but I don't know why. I'm hoping my little bug hunt will help one of you trace the problem. At least I've narrowed where to look! The game is playable, even with the flickers, but it would be nice to get rid of them once and for all!
