Agreed...

Early in the war one torp to get their attention and then, (if necessary), finish 'em with the deck gun.

We all play the game differently, and more power to that, but three torpedoes just to start a 4900 tonner is overkill.

Even a large merchant does not need two initial shots, if it is a loner and you have time (which the OP did, and, yes, I am aware he was in the Shetlands).

But, again, we all play differently, and more power to that.

Our games are modded differently.
Spawning probabilty is cranked way down on mine.
For the Shetlands most players will see heavy traffic.
I usualy encounter - none.

How much value we assign to a target is very different.
I don't think about all the targets I might encounter later.
It's more important (IMO) to put every effort into sinking this target which lies before me now.

And yes, we are all individuals, and don't think in a box.
It realy does make this forum a fun and interesting place.
(Conversations between people who always agree can get realy dull, no?)

He stated that the sea was too rough for the deck gun.

Oops, so he did...

I guess that's what happens when you start using the GWX All-Weather-Guns Mod.

What defines him as "rough seas"?

Understood.

Bang bang shoot 'em up.

I assume winds over 7m/s, so he could not mount a gun crew.

This ship sounds like it is the dreaded Passenger/Cargo ship with it's cargo of pingpong-balls. It's very resilient, atleast in GWX.

I do not have any set rules on how many torpedos per target I want to use. But do keep a 1 torpedo per shot rule (no salvo's). As I also want to aim at specific parts. Then I just wait for signs of flooding and 9 times out of 10 a single torpedo is enough to get it down. It might take hours for flooding to eventually kill it. Patience is the game.

The magic P/C.

I killed one a couple of careers ago... took hours for the thing to go down, and I finally finished it with some deck gun when the weather cleared.

When I finished the patrol, I was told it was filled with machine parts or scrap metal or something completely improbable.

Passenger/Cargo = at best, a waste of time
