I run SH4 on Vista 64. I did make another 'Games' folder for it and stay out of program files as Privateer suggests.

I also agree with Ducimus. Load the vanilla and find a larger mod pack. Install immediately. Stay thirsty my friend.

Well if you plan on staying in the atlantic as german uboat I recommend operation monsun and to stay in the pacific as us sub I recommend tmo. Awsome mods graphicly and gameplay as more of an improvement than with stock sh4 plus there arw more mods coming to om at later dates. Hope you enjoy and hopefully youll find a way to get sh3 running again.

Different to SH3, SH4 installed flawlessly, and runs flawlessly. And no Starforce. :shucks:

I know there are problems installing the older versions of SH3 with StarForce.
The newer version that is StarForce free installed easily, and was modded with GWX 3 with the same ease.
I highly recommend the newer version of SH3 without StarForce!
StarForce and the Reloaded Hack cause many issues with the Game.

I run Win 7 64 bit
SH3 is installed to the D: drive.
SH4 is in Program Files (x86) on the C: drive.

:dead:

Why hasn't it come to my mind earlier that when I spend money on SH4, I could as well have spend it on SF-free SH3...? :damn:

Madox58 03-21-11 05:22 PM

I have not even attempted to install the StarForce version on Win 7 64 bit.
If I was to do so?
I'd probably try to SandBox it.
But at just over $7 dollars U.S.?
The time involved would cost me more money then the New releases.

And if it's the Atlantic theater you want, SH4 does have OM which IMO holds up well to the best SHIII mods have to offer, even with a few advantages of its own (including obviously better graphics, better crew management, and arguably the best-researched and detailed campaign traffic of all SH atlantic campaigns). On the minus side, it just lacks a lot of the bells and whistles (extra ships, objects, etc.) of SHIIIs advanced mods, along with Commander. But it's worth a try, and in fact I've played far more of it in the last 2 years than SHIII. So to my mind it's an adequate replacement for needing SHIII...

:yep:  Couldn't have said it better myself. I'm still stuck on both, SH3 because of Commander (I have to keep the Ship Names going) and the cute harbors, and SH4 for all the reasons mentioned above.

That said, if SH4 ever gets those things, I won't have a reason to keep SH3 on my computer.
