Hi Vendor

I have gone to the GWX download site and am presented with 8 files to download from a master called Conning Towers,...the last being a tribute file :
http://www.gamefront.com/files/user/ConningTower

Do I download ALL of these, and are they just the file needed and broken down into each section...or do I just download a SINGLE file, if so which one do you suggest.

Is the patch just a normal over-ride patch and is just placed in the SH3 file and accepted to over-ride the existing file?

Ohh and I just treid the SH3 game now and the null base is still there but the game is ok to play....I just wont pick that base and all should be ok....thanks again for your help on that.

Thanks for now
John

Your problem may be simpler to solve than you anticipate.
This type of thing used to happen to me, often.

Try cleaning any dust from inside your computer.
Special attention to the graffik card, memory sticks, fans, and power supply.
SH3 is fairly demanding of resoursed. A-little dust can hurt a-lot.

Feel for built up heat problems.
You may want to play with the side panel off, for better ventilation.

You don't need the mpeg file, but download GWX3-1.bin through to GWX3-7.bin and download GWX3.exe (install program). Then put em all in the same directory and run the GWX3 install program. Point it in the direction of your Silent Hunter 3 install and make sure your Silent Hunter 3 is clean and unmodded. The rest will be automatic.

edit: Oh, and make sure your Silent Hunter 3 is the latest 1.4b version. You can get the 1.4b patch from the downloads section of subsim if you need it.

You're welcome! But do not forget that you need to have a clean install of SH3, and one piece of advice is that you clear the deleted files and folders from SH3 from my document /the partition C, use CCleaner (free), or reg vac cleaner free trial

Okay so I have DL the GWX files and am about to set up.

Should I completely uninstall SH3 use CC cleaner to get rid any extra files in the HD and then reinstall SH3 as new and then run GWX ?

Do I need to clean out reg filesd too?

I have my SH3 file now modded with some mods from here and the installer too.

The v1.4 patch is in the file destination now but I can reinsert it with a new install.

Thanks in advance guys

GWX needs a clean install.

And uninstall and reinstall should suffice. Delete any installed mods using JSGME, and make sure you read the FAQ on SHC to help install that.

Sorry, I have SHC installed already

also, can I simply un-mod the files in JSGME, will that be enough as the last time in uninstalled and reinstalled SH3 the MOD folder and JSGME remained in the registry and were reloaded automatically into the directory folder

Doesn't matter, as Commander is not a mod and only affects the game from the outside, imposing its changes as it loads.

An example: I have the Water Clarity set very low in Commander (I have it set to 2), so if I load through Commander I can hardly see anything at all. If, however, I load the game directly the water is quite clear, so Commander overrides the game on a load-by-load basis. I also have it set for Auto-Rollback, so that probably makes the difference.

I would have said no, but it seems to have worked for you, so I'm probably wrong (as usual).

I keep a separate unmodded stock Data folder in a safe place, which allows me to re-install in short time by just swapping in the stock folder. This also guarantees that I have a copy of all the stock files, just in case I need one for something.

Yeah, I just un-modded and everything was fine.

Spoke too soon...slightly.
Started off in 1939 just to get a feel for the new bits and pieces.
Played for about an hour or so. Messed around with new mods added.
Message said we are at war with England.
Five minutes later a nice big cargo ship popped into view.
Tracked her, fired 2 torpedos.
One was a flippin dud..the other hit her prop.
Fired another and sunk her.

Game crashed before I could save it...ahhhhhhh

Anyway, will restart from last save and see how it goes...but all that work, all the lovely tonnage...gone forever....:damn:
