Apart from oliebollen, I can't really think of any special Dutch traditions. For the rest it's mostly the usual fireworks and champagne you see in most other countries. A local tradition from the "Achterhoek" in the Eastern Netherlands is rolling waffles. Unfortunately this tradition has almost died out, and personally I don't expect it to survive the next generation. http://www.mijnalbum.nl/Foto-KPLROJZG.jpg |
Christmas is for the children and New Year is for the adults....if I'm not working we usually have friends and family round to ours for a party.

Usually spent with friends or "younger" relatives (brother & cousin this year). Good time to drink up all that money from Christmas. :O:

Usually I work. This is the first year in a while I didn't have to work, since New Years Day fell on a weekend.
This year we hung out, watched Twilight Zone(SyFy Network)/Three Stooges(AMC Network)/football as the mood took us. I guess the only real tradition for the day is we go over to my mom's for dinner-she makes a great green chili and burrito mix and we play cards with my brother, sister and their kids. New Years Eve, we have our own little family tradition with just my wife, kids, and myself. We boil some shrimp, have some cheese and crackers, and it is family game night until midnight. I rarely make 'til midnight though, especially when I work the next day. I did this year though.:woot: :) |
