hi,

yes that's correct, I just want to fix the sonarman to give me audible replies on my command. The radioman has this problem too. For me it's going to be about immersive realism. I intend to have as many actions performed by my voice commands as possible. I will have a small monitor perched on a shelve at eye level infront of which will be a tube with a binocular sized cut out. This will be my periscope. When I command 'up attack periscope' the computer monitor will also switch to the periscope view and I will look at the action through there as a real sub commander would do. Another monitor will be used for any other actions such as Nav map. This monitor will sit on a desk and I move to it to do my calculations when required. I'll have cordless headphones so i can go to the kitchen and make myself a cup of tea (I'm English you know) while still playing the game, as a commander might go to other parts of the sub but still be contactable.

Voice commands are readily available with the SH3Speech program. It is a ridiculously fun little program to play with in that it has some slang instead of just direct orders... (ie. "Let's get some air, chief" is a recognized command for surfacing the boat). Love it and can't live without it now that I've got it working with Flakmonkeys New Interiors.

SH3Speech

Having the crew relay the information verbally for everything (including things that are only text at the moment....I'm not sure. Never some across such a beast.

yes, I've been trying to get it working all of today but I'm not quite there yet. Tell me Paulie 76...I'm at the GWX_SH3Speech 'black dialog box' i.e. the box which comes up with lines...

Caching SH3_GWX dials
Listening...

Am I right in assuming that if everything is set up correctly, lines of text would appear every time I speak into the microphone?
I got 'Shoot' to work with SH3 but this SH3Speech sounds to be the better of the two.

Did you install Windows Speech SDK 5.1?

Also what operating system? When I was running on XP I seem to recall having to manually change my push to talk key to get it to work correctly. On Windows 7 you should see two things pop up. 1) The batch file (black box) that registers your commands, and 2) the Windows speech control. By default the speech control seems to be turned off so you have to hit the button to turn it on before it'll work.

Not sure why that is. I just installed SH3 onto windows 7 a week ago and still figuring out a lot of its idiosyncracies.

hi,

well I removed successfully the push to talk ' from the file and that got rid of the 'PUSH TO TALK ENABLED' text but still no joy.
Re 5.1 speech: I have WinXP and my Speech Properties panel displays 'Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1' as well 'Microsoft English (U.S.) v6.1 Recognizer'
So I assume I already have it. But I did download SDK 5.1 and this added another option of 'SAPI Developer Sample Engine' on the list.
Thing is I can successfully do voice training with 'Microsoft English (U.S.) v6.1 Recognizer' but if I chose 'Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1' to voice train a profile none of my words are picked up by the recognizer despite the microphone working. But also...if I load SH3_GWX (Gold) and use Shoot 1.6 with the 'Microsoft English Recognizer v5.1' profile selected it does not work, but if I switch to 'Microsoft English (U.S.) v6.1 Recognizer' SH3_GWX does work with Shoot 1.6. So what's up with 5.1? Why won't it train with me?:-?

well miraculously...all seems ok with 5.1 and speech, though it takes some minutes for the black feedback box to get going with picking up any command.:DL
