To us no they not, they are like democrats (middle left) - but by Neocon standards, they quite possibly look socialist, given the party history.
We have an actual socialist party in the Uk but they are not popular (they fall under the 'others' catagory if you know what i mean)

Hell, In the UK we have the same type of health care system that Obama is trying to introduce in the U.S (the NHS)
We brits often joke about it, but I can tell you that If any goverment tried to scrap it, there would likley be riots!

Right now we have a coalition governement, but its lead by the conservatives (middle-right) to be honest.
I actually worked in their campaign hq during the election (although Im not really a fan), but it payed the bills and it was intreasting experience none the less :).

Oh and Thatcher was a Conservative.
