Well, she's made it this far. It's still up in the air as to her survival. A couple of days ago her heart was galloping along at very high pulse rates, but that stabilized. I guess you could call her condition "critical, but stable."

Even if she does make it, she will still have some deficits on her left side. There's a chance she'll ALMOST make it back to normal, though a slim one. At least she'll still be able to speak and write w/her right hand.

Addendum: Blue Cross/Blue Shield sent us a letter DENYING payment for her first ICU stay in May, after a first letter approved it. As it is a military ICU, we still won't have to pay, but can you imagine what extra strain this would put on a family? Why would people support a health care industry which pulls crap like this over reform?

Thanks for the update - glad to hear she is still hanging in there.

As for the insurance... aargh. At least you don't have to worry about getting stuck with a huge bill. I know from experience that sometimes the big insurers are pretty much programmed to deny certain things even if it violates the member's policy to do so. At my job we've had insurance phone reps admit that they do it. Enough people will let it slide because they don't want the hassle or don't know any better and the insurer gets out of paying for something that should be covered. So if you've got the stomach for it, fight 'em anyway and make 'em pay if there are benefits due. It's not like they're gonna let it slide if somebody misses a premium payment.

She is in my prayers, brother.

You, your Mother and family are in my thoughts, TVM.
I doubt words of strangers really bring you the help you need : when you get to face that sort of thing you really feel all alone. But I'll still pray for some good news coming your way, that will bring you some needed comfort.
Hang in there mate !

Kind regards,

Alex

That's some good news. Hang in there. :)

My Grandpa (aged mid eighties) suffered a heart attack in the middle of woop woop (Australian outback) back home a month ago. Thankfully the Royal Flying Doctor Service managed to fly him to Perth hospital where he has recovered. After then having stayed with Mum for a couple of weeks he is now back at home. Back when he was in his sixties he had a triple by-pass operation after a massive heart attack. Amazingly he seems to be back to normal now and doing all the things he does to keep himself active.

Will keep the prayers coming. Take care. :)
