I was always surprised that society is breaking down and yet you can make a living selling ice cream.

Dude, once the air conditioning stops running ice cream becomes the new gold! :yep:

Because, as anyone who reads the classics knows, Greeks bearing gifts always turn out to bring gifts bearing Greeks.

the problem with trying to be the world's policemen is that many if not most of the world's countries are dictatorships of one form or another and it has been like that since the beginning of civilization, 8,000 years ago. So where do you start?

North korea? China? Burma? Sudan? Congo? Syria? Kazakhstan? Saudi Arabia? Egypt? Lybia? Algeria? Chad? Venezuela?

The U.S. had grand ideas of bringing western style democracy to Iraq and the middle east when it invaded in 2003. Look how well that turned out..

Better to deal with the urgent problems on a case by case basis.

Using a combined micro-grill-combo myself (additional to electro-stove and water-cooker), and having good experience with it, I only say: it depends on the type and ammount of food. For some purposes, micros use less electricity, for others, they use more. If you use it for everything, your electricity bill will grow considerably.

Preferred would be a gas-stove and a huge Wok, cast iron, uncoated. Lets you regulate temperature better than anything else.

What saves you real money (more than 50% compared to the bakery shop, calculating both electricity and ingredients), is a good homebaker machine. That I use since I left the home of my parents. Panasonic's is the best you can get. I grind the flour myself, too. All in all a wholegrain bread that costs me around 4-5 Euros at the baker, selfmade costs around 2 euros or less (and tastes much better).

Kitchen One, out. :DL

Cooking tips from Sky. :DL Seriously why have we not got a cooking thread? We sub simmers are such a diverse multi-talented bunch of guys and girls.

I think about this every week when I watch Top Chef. :D

Seriously, though, that would be cool. Sharing recipes and hints and tips, questions and answers.

Sadly I'm typically more interested in buying cool things for my kitchen, not so much in the actual, you know, cooking part. A lot of it is the time factor, but still. You know it's bad when you're using a $165 MRP grill pan to heat up frozen Tyson chicken strips. :O:

First you must provide me with a list of kitchen-typical vocabularies and translations for the names of spices and vegetables. :DL And then I make all your hungry bellies do yum-yum until you all lay down and go tom-tom. :D

:wah:

I don't know if this will help - no translations, but it does have pictures and descriptions:

The Cook's Thesaurus

You are reminding me of all the times I go to the big international market down the street and look at all the German stuff with the pictures of yummy looking food on the front and then I turn the box over and all the directions are in German.

So again I say:

:wah:

Well the Germans tried to make everyone speak their language, you can't fault them for that...
