Another reason why texting is much better than calling:

Imagine you're in a noisy pub, and some friend of yours in some random other noisy pub is trying to find you.

"He..., wh...e ar... ...ou?"
"What?"
"Sor..., ..at di....ou j...st ...ay?"
"I said WHAT?"
"..ere are ..ou?"
"We're in the Jack"
"c...'t hea... y..u"
"The JACK"
"...e w...at?!"
"Ah never mind, I'll text you"
"..an you ...epeat ... at?"

"BEEP -- BEEP -- BEEP"

Wouldn't be the first time this happened to me

What?! Caveman level?! I usually text less then 10 a week! If I want to talk to someone, I go see him/her in person, maybe find him/her on MSN if I can't. Texting is reserved for short messages like "you going out tonight?", "where are you?", "sry for last night" and the like.

I hope I am not the only one here who has never texted?

DF, I may have been exaggerating, 50 a day is a bit much for me, but, having a girlfriend whom I can rarely see kinda notches my texting activity up a bit.

between me and friends, < 10 a week

between me and her about 50 a week

Walking, sitting, it doesn't matter where it happens, teenagers seem to need to text. Statistics show 80 percent of all 15 to 18-year-olds own a cell phone. And the rate of texting has sky rocketed 600 percent in three years. The average teen sends 3,000 texts a month.

Yes. I send maybe five or six texts a month on my Blackberry and recieve about the same, although some of those are promotional from AT&T. Most of my texts are work-related and I am terrible at typing on it.

I did it once or twice to make sure it worked, because I'd only just enabled it on my phone. It did. I haven't done it since. I barely ever use my cell phone anyway.

I send rather a lot of messages, and usually keep a chat window open with anyone online - I'm usually talking to people back in Ireland so it's a lot cheaper to keep an email/IM window open on my phone than use SMS.

I use Swype as the keyboard - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmH0vwLu51c

Yep....on my third consecutive Blackberry now. I keep going for a slightly larger (dimensionally) model hoping the keyboard will be expansive enough for my fingers.....fail every time.

Looking for one the size of a house brick next :DL

The member of our band at whose house we rehearse regularly texts us all about the next session. My replies to him are the only time I ever text.

As for phones, I became briefly infatuated with using it for the internet, so when I got my current service I bought a phone with internet and a camera. I've used them so much that when it finally dies I intend to replace it with an el-cheapo model that makes phone calls.

When not using the phone I use skype for communication, at least with that you can see who your talking too. What i find morbid with this texting is those who use it don't have any emotional/mental contact with the receiver at least on a phone you hear their voice texting its nothing.

Can understand if you need to text about work etc but using texting as your main form of communication you mos well be texting to yourself.

I kinda like texting. It's not the most convenient method of communication, but for confirming plans and meeting people, it's extremely handy. Sadly, noone ever texts me, so that capacity in my phone goes largely unused.
