That, Frau Kaleun, is a great example of Monty Scott repairwork.

"An hour!"
"Oh, you didn't tell him how long it would really take, did you?"
"Of course I did."
"Oh, laddie, you have a lot to learn if you want people to think of you as a miracle worker."

Results of my investigation: the speaker system was plugged into an input jack, rather than the appropriate audio output jack on the soundcard.

If only they'd do something useful, like colour-code them, maybe a light green colour? Or even put a picture of, ooh, I dunno, speakers/earphones/crochet+arrow out?

Doctors, like officers in the military, all educashun and no common sense. I'd happily follow into battle many of the officers I served under, but I'd only follow a handful across a road :yep:, if anyone out there has both a good standard of education and common sense then well done, you are indeed a rarity.

I know, I thought exactly the same thing. Not only did the correct jack have the little picture next to it indicating "out to speakers" or whatever, but the speaker cable was color-coded to match. A real eye-roller, that one.

My favorite last week - boss buzzed me wanting to know if I've got an internet connection (via office LAN). Yep, I say, I'm looking something up right now, no problems. She tells me she's trying to get online on her computer and keeps getting the same error message over and over again.

So I go up there and look at the "error message" in her browser window. Uh... yeah... see, here's the thing: a "page not found" message does not = no internet connection. In this case it means you typed an invalid URL into the "home page" selection box in Internet Options and every time you click on the IE icon to open the browser, it tries to load the same nonexistent page.

Seriously, people can't put in google.com or click on some random link in Favorites to check this stuff out before calling me away from my desk to figure out why their internet is "broken"? :nope:
