Yea thats because none of the produces, editors, composers etc that worked on the new Star Trek had ever worked on a Star Trek series or movie before. They were all JJA's lackeys. The old team really cared about their work (Some had worked on it for several decades!)
Guys like Ron Moore, Sternbach, the Okudas, Dan Curry were nowhere to be seen. I would have even welcomed Braga and Berman for this one (As much as fans like to bitch about those two they really did some good work at times, especially compared to JJA.)
I'm sure Andre Bormanis was nowhere to be seen the set of that last movie...

A side note: Like Simon Pegg or not, in this movie they gave him a weird little alien sidekick. I laughed with delight when I saw the actor's name: Deep Roy. For those of you who remember Tom Baker's Doctor Who, you might want to think of 'The Talons of Weng Chiang'. Deep Roy was Mr. Sin, the Peking Humunculus.

That chracter was quite possibly the biggest waste of time in the movie. What does it do? Shows New Kirk and Spock where Scotty is hanging out? What they couldn't have just had Kirk and Spock walk down the hull on their own and find him? Then he shows up on the ship at the end for some reason... did they guy even have a line?
