Neither do we honestly. To destroy 1/4 of the planet we would need 26,750,000,000,000 H Bombs. I don't mean to destroy just a 1/4 of the surface... that's for sissies I'm talking 1/4 of the whole damn shebang! 1/4 of the 5.9742 × 1021 Tonne hunk of Iron, Oxygen and Silicon we live on.

(BTW Total planetary destruction would require 107,000,000,000,000 H Bombs)

Err what? You saying it's possible to lose a quarter of the earth sphere without destroying the planet? How'd you do that? :hmmm:

I meant the surface and mankind civilization and survival. :-)

Great! Now I got to tell my 9yr old daughter I'm not the cool person she thinks I am.:) I didn't want to come across as somebody overly concerned about this. I noticed the stock markets have not been unduly affected by the sinking of the South Korean ship or the eventual realization that it was sunk by the North Koreans. Strange as the markets are more sensitive then usual for anything that could cause uncertainty in the future. Pretty good indication that they've heard it all before and are discounting it. Still, I have to wonder at how irrational the "anointed ones" behavior is and seems to be getting worse.

Correction! It's singular anointed one.

At least until his youngest son takes over.

US-South Korea joint naval exercise is obviously going to destabilize Kim Jong Il :O:(instead of the Korean peninsula). The question is would he destabilize the Korean peninsula in effect? And if so how far would he go?

Anyway imo this is one of those immediate task for the Obama administration to handle. NK nuclear issue is probably even more dangerous than Iran nuclear issue(much to the disappointment of Israel :hmmm:)

Honestly much concessions or even too much of it have been given to NK and China. The joint naval exercise has been postponed many many times and has even changed its intended location. I see no reason for NK to be so agitated but then again NK follows a different flow of logic altogether. If there were going to be war it would not be started by South Korea and US. That much is obvious.

I didn't say the results would be pretty but the planet would still be there just with 25% less mass and quite possibly one hell of a deviation it in orbit.

The Earth would end up looking something like Mimas...

If it was it would not be the strangest thing found in orbit of Saturn...

(Just because some smart ass here will say it was in orbit of Jupiter I have to make a note: It was in orbit of Saturn in the book.)

Well done! Many people don't know that. :yeah: As a bigger fan of the book than the movie (and the movie is great), that has always bugged me. Why did they change the planet like that?

Because the people who were doing the special effects didn't think they could make Saturn's Rings look convincing so they switched to Jupiter whose ring was not known of at the time of the first movie so was not seen. But Jupiter does have a ring its very faint, not many know that, it was discovered by the V'Ger errr.... Voyager probes.

The same team did go on to make Saturn's Rings in Silent Running.

Have they made good on their threat?! Still no?! A little advice: Once they launched their missiles better hide those mobile launchers :dead:.
