The Deepwater Horizon well on the steep slope of the canyon wall is very susceptible to tectonic movements and may further endanger the stability of the well ceiling.
While the gulf is not exactly Southern California, it is not a stranger to large earthquakes

Are you saying the fourth estate isn't what it should be when it comes to Barack Obama?

What I'm saying is....IMO Obama is a crap POTUS and is becoming increasingly aware of the growing disillusionment of the American electorate in him.

I should imagine he will cover his ar$e and ensure no blame will be attached to him.

Again... why was this not considered aforehand, they knew the new cap was going on, they knew BP was making progress, they knew the 'plan'. It is only when the plan comes to fruition they say "Oh wait hold on a minute lets not be so hasty". At best its piss poor planing and an utter lack of foresight. Another familiar pattern.

Also it begs the question of why in the hell are they drilling in such a precarious place?

No arguments from me on this. While I don't consider BP to be "evil", at the same time, it appears that BP acted very irresponsibly. It can be argued, and probably will, whether the government should have allowed or not allowed BP (and the other oil companies) to act irresponsibility. But government action/inaction should not recuse BP from their responsibilities for acting... well.. responsibly.

BP has been once again getting a slating in the US although this time via the Senate and about the Libyan bomber of Pan Am 103, some chat show-types sounded like we were the new Afghanistan/Iraq/Korea, and yet even my wife knows that the major shareholder is JPMorgan Chase - yes the very, very large US investment firm! Where are the media banging on their doors asking them to pay dearly for what THEY have done. :stare:

Well seeing as how given the way things are going a major shareholder in BP is going to pay.

Speaking of that I have heard some rumblings of BP not paying up settelments in a timely manner... what happened to that slush fund?

Some things in a mission like this you cannot precisely forsee. They measured a chnage in seismic activity in the area due to the valves slowly being closed, and this was according to a range and shcmee they did not expect. It is a normal and sensible decision then you obserbe what is going on for a little bit longer than originally projected in the "plan". Last news is they expect to move on according to plan soon, just with the said delay.

delays for observing the influence of the cap and the closing valves on the behavbioor of the oil well and the seismic structure in the area were pre-planned. the planned pauses just were longer than forseen, due to unforseen range of seismic chnages.

no conspiracy here, SW. No evil Feds trying to mess up free business and throwig mud at BP. That BP has a mask of mud over its face - is BP's very own fault - they did the damage. the faut of governments has been "only" that they allowed hilariously mild controls on security, and made security rules for deep drilling that the norwegian experts mocked about as not being security rules at all by their own Norwegian standards.

The oil lobby was very successful over the past decades to prevent any tighter legislation that would cost more precious money of their profits. Recent legal disputes between the lobby and the government just shows how powerful this lobby is.
