I am really curious to get to know the technical details of this boat.

Actually this is the 5th "True" submarine they have found.

1st was the 1994 Tayrona Sub

2nd was the 1995 Cartagena submarine
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/8...tagena3.th.jpg
3rd 2000 Facatativa Sub (Built with Russian assistance)
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/386...ofacta1.th.jpg
4th was the 2006 Vigo (as in Spain!) sub
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5254/vigosub3.th.jpg
(Totally unrelated to the Colombian Cartels)

The 2010 Ecuador sub makes 5

I was never aware so many (semi) submersibles are in use by the drugs runners for such a long time...nice blog.

@tlam: very interesting read, thanks for your "shameless self-promotion":salute:

It hasn't been on my radar, that the technology of the narco-subs already advanced to this level. But I am in good company: even in the bbc-report they said it was the first real sub. I wonder when the first nuclear narco submarines - which makes them nucnarcsubs :D - will appear. I'm sure some russian mobsters have some old reactors for sale...

Can you tell me where the Cartagena boat is located today? As it seems it is open to the public. My guess would be, well, some beach in Columbia :smug:

@ Vendor: If you are looking for the Midget Sub stuff go to the bottom and look for the older posts for June.

@Penguin: My friend says they are at the Colombian Coast Guard based in Cartagena. 10 24'58.69"N 75 32'56.18"W if you look in Google Earth you will notice a low profile boat tied to the Pier as well.

Penguin 07-08-10 07:04 AM

thanks man, I found it on Google Earth. It's even hard to detect on the beach, image it in the water :o

Gerald 07-08-10 04:43 PM

Thank you for the info...

wow, that looks like it was put together by some hobby DIY guy. Wouldn't sail in that thing for even a lot of money. Makes you wonder how many crews have died in such a thing nobody knows about...

I give 'em an A+ for 'interesting use of steering wheels'. :haha:
