Well, I managed to get the re-installation done and GWX 3.0 installed but now its telling me that MOVIETEXT.ACT file is missing? Is this downloadable?

I understand from reading another thread that frau kaleun is sending you the file you require.

You should heed the advice offered by FIREWALL regarding the SH3 folder contained within C\MyDocs because even if tour new install should work it WILL give you problems after you make saves to the same location from your newer install.

Guys, I have to tell you something, the game dosen`t exactly install, I can`t install it again because the computer still thinks its there after I hand pick the files in the bin! Do I just buy a new disk or what?

robbo180265 07-05-10 01:04 PM

Use Crap cleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner

Or a prgramme like it to make sure that everything has gone.

And when you think everything has - do a search of files and programmes to make sure.

Gerald 07-05-10 01:34 PM

Yeah....

You neeed to cleanse your registry files.

I use this...http://www.regvac.com/fregvac.htm.... there is a free trial version you can grab.

As Jim said,it sounds like a lot of junk has accumulated in your registry base, cleaning this COULD alleviate the problem but is not guaranteed.Either clean the registry manually (a risky endeavour if you dont know what you are doing!) or buy a certified reg cleaner from say Amazon,or you may be able to find some freeware online.
The only safe way to return your system to its factory defaults (original working order) is to format the entire system.By that I mean insert your original operating system disc (if you have it) and clean install the entire OS from scratch again, making sure to back up all important files, like saved games etc.
This WILL guarantee the return of your original system and restore the default windows installation files needed to install stuff, and probably allow you to install SH3 again properly ONLY if you are sure there is nothing wrong with the SH3 disc and it has worked before with no problems.
If your system was built for you by a friend for example you may not have the original OS disc at hand,in which case it may be prudent to buy one.I still use Win XP home edition and its still a rock solid OS,although the Service Pack 2 has been known to cause problems with games and is quite bulky in size,a whopping 400MB I think it was!
Sorry if this is no help, but formatting WILL remove all problems that were not there before.I personally carry out a format usually once a month or so,just helps to keep her weight down by removing all the uneeded, and likely corrupt junk.

Again, guys, search the &*#^! archives before guessing! This same question has been asked and answered before. It is not SH3 related - search Google and follow the oodles of instructions. Seriously, it only takes a few minutes to do.

Heck, I'll even help you get started... http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&safe=off&client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&hs=nCm&sa=X&oi=spell&resnum=0&ct=resul t&cd=1&q=Error+1316.+a+network+error+occurred+whil e+attempting&spell=1

Hint: Windows installer cleanup utility...

BAD:
C:\Games\SilentHunter\MODS\[My Mod] Conning Tower Emblem\data\

GOOD:
C:\Games\SilentHunter\MODS\(My Mod) Conning Tower Emblem\data\
C:\Games\SilentHunter\MODS\Conning Tower Emblem [My Mod]\data\
C:\Games\SilentHunter\MODS\Conning Tower [My Mod] Emblem\data\
So the main Q,is how may people install in A,well if you have split your hard drive in partion,a stand for floppy or dvd.cd......but anyway, thing get more unstable or slower on this side of earth!

Vendor, why do you keep quoting a totally unrelated post of mine in every thread I post in?
