It would be a huge propaganda victory for the islamists "Hey, look, we've defeated Nato!". That would surely come in handy for them for their recruit campaigns.

On a side note, I think we should forget about making Afghanistan a democracy like in western countries. It isn't going to work.

All nice and well, it is a loss of face, like the US stayed in Vietnam too long for not loosing its face.

There is no point in staying i Afghánstian and doing "something" for them. It does not work, it will not work, and thus it is not worth the life of any Western soldiers. The Taleban cannot be defeated, since nobody is willing to crack down on Pakistan. Their likes will take over what you leave behind after pulling out. Whatever you leave behind thus is a waste of resources.

I haven't accepted to risk our (German and American and other Western) troops' lives over there since many years now, since after the Iraq war began and the US had started to shift its troops from Afghansitan to Iraq. And I will not change my mind for the rest of this conflict. It is a battle in vein. Morally I cannot justify to put our soldiers lives at risk for this nonsense. It's not worth it, and the result always will be something that works against us - becasue it is Afghanistan and not some district in Arkansas or Middle Europe.

BTW, this thread started with a (admitted: unvoluntary) cartoon, so...

The first picture was taken in Afghanistan.

In that case, I have no complaints.
Their land, their rules.

agreed.

but you must admit the sheer stupidity of this photo ID concept, as not one identifying characteristic can be seen.
