Yeah I did, he ghinks a file from the stock installation is corrupt and said run mx5 I think, whatever that is? Any ideas?

Just compared the files - they all match.

If the MD5's of the downloaded files are correct, then your problem is a corrupt install of (vanilla) SH3.
It needs to be removed (via the disc), your registry cleaned, the Ubisoft folder removed, and all residual files deleted. SH3 folder in "My Documents" needs to be removed.
If you have Vista or Windows7, you need to delete the folder in Virtual Store if it is present. (C:\\Users\owner\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Ubisof t\SilentHunterIII)
Reboot your computer, and reinstall SilentHnter3 from the disc
You should obtain a disc which is already patched to 1.4b and starforce free to install from. (Cost: $9.95)
Start the game and immediately exit.
Install GWX3.0Gold.
You should now have a clean install which should work.
I would now make a copy, and store it on an external hard drive if available; if you do not have one, make a copy on another section of your hard drive and label it "Copy of SH3"
You can then use this to restore any files or installs that are bad.
