Maybe a Wii Fit version, where you have to actually run on the balance board whenever you want to move around the boat.

You can hate the game, but get fit at the same time. :yeah:

Lol! :DImagine running through the house at full pelt and hiding in the bath when the alarm goes....or shouting 'Torpedo Lohs..!' and throwing the wii-mote at the cat....

I'm now envisioning an entire range of spin off products with Doenitz and Raeder dressed up lile Mario and Luigi....we could do a pacific one too but I don't think Mush Morton looks enough like Sonic.

Anyways...I still don't have the game so I won't comment on the campaign or anything else except to say 'No KM grid? Really?'

For a U-boat sim, that kind of shocks me.

Where did you get the idea we're talking about a u-boat sim here? :D

This is the NUMBER 1 immersion destroyer for me as well.

Until this crap gets modded out....SH5 sits on my shelf collecting dust :nope:

We can argue a lot about this, and there's no definite answer.

But I don't remember Doenitz sending anybody but some chosen aces on the initial phase of Drumbeat.

I want the SH3 Campaign style , get a Grid to partol and there and back when you want and sink anything there and back and it counts.

There's clearly a presentation/communication problem here, and its noted.

In SH5 you don't have to do the mission objectives, and anything sunk COUNTS. It would probably have been better if all objectives were hidden.

Actually that's not such a bad idea. Have the player patrol around and once he's sunken certain amount of shipping in certain area he'd get a letter from Uncle Karl or the flotilla commander saying that you have achieved this and that and you show a great example for the younger kaleuns. Of course the letter would be the only thing that would be gotten. Sort of like hidden achievements or something like that.

It's not even like the idea of objectives is that bad. I enjoyed the missions in SH4, particulary dropping people off or rescuing downed pilots. Like Elanaiba says it's maybe as much to do with presentation as anything else.

Personally, I never liked the idea of the renown system - it always seemed a cheesy way of saying 'score' to me. But what if special missions and so forth were tied to renown? If you are a famous enough skipper you might be picked by Bdu to enter a Harbour and sink a specific target,( Yeah, just like Prien,) It makes these special missions something different and special and makes working towards being trusted enough by Doenitz something important. Tie in access to new boats in the same way. In the campaign expansion for 43-45 (:03:) imagine being called into the flotilla office one day as a Renowned skipper and asked whether you would like to take command of a new type XXI...That would add something, would it not?

I think this would allow the best of both worlds - access to sensible and historically plausible special mission that may lead to tangible bonuses (Medals, promotion etc, ) and give a deeper 'gameplay' meaning to you long and dangerous patrols.

FWIW, I don't like missions in a sim of the 'sink x number of battleships' type regardless of whether they are optional or not. They don't feel right and spoil the immersion. But if the game had something like I outlined above I'd be very interested.

What I would change in campaing is that all the objectives (sink 100,000 tons for example) are there, but they would be "bonus" objectives. If you sink like 80 000 tons instead of 100 000, it's hardly a failure... Would be better that you patrol that area and sink what you can, but you don't have to sink this much merchant shipping to "complete" your mission. You sink what you can. But IF you sink over 100 000 tons, you get bonus (medal or something...)

Like others have said, it all depends of how it is presentated. If you are forced to sink 100 000 tons, it's not fun anymore. But if you are encouraged to do so and you might get something in return if you do, it's much more entertaining.

I actually like the campaign structure . I think its more realistic than SH3/4 .

Salvadoreno 05-28-10 05:08 PM

You know what i miss.... The band playing as i slowly creep out of port. :(. That was a HUGE immersion factor for me. Knowing it might be my last time hearing those beautiful trumpets!

Well i JUST finished my first patrol with a bunch of mods installed, and i gotta say. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Running around the sub when you see "smoke on the horizon", taking bearings with your XO, and manuvering the sub in position is incredibly rewarding while being able to run around the uboot. Even though i only encountered 1 merchant, it was still well worth it. After i put 3 torpedoes into her i stuck around to blow the ship away with the deck gun which was a bad idea. More smoke on the horizon was spotted as nearby destroyers got the distress signal and raced to investigate. I snuck away but i like the "dynamic" part of the campaign. I cannot wait what modders do to turn this game into an AMAZING experience. They have already started.

All that modders havent really touched yet is the campaign files, which can change the mission objectives/maybe even put the grid system back in. O man im stoked!!!

Thankyou. I'm available for weddings, barmitvahs and very strange funerals.
