Sorry to hear about your mum. I dont really know you, but I recently lost my Grandfather to cancer. My heart goes out to you and yours. I know how hard it can be not only to the person suffering with the disease, so hang in there and all the best to you and your family :)

I'm so sorry to hear that. My mother's breast cancer came back after 16 years (with mets all over, including lungs). She was diagnosed before my 6 year old daughter was born, but managed to hold on for nearly 6 years before the $@!#$ cancer finally won last summer.
While stage iv is very bad, she might well respond well enough to have some quality years. My mom's oncologist had her do several therapies, starting with hormones. The tamoxifen was amazing—it shrank her mets to the point that the first few years after diagnosis were practically normal for her. Some respond with a remission for an indeterminate time (rare, but not impossible). Best of luck, and make sure your dad has help when it comes to it (hospice, etc). My dad showed up yesterday (flew to visit on short notice), so how tough it was on him is pretty fresh in my mind. Hang tight. |
My thoughts are with you.
Be strong for her.
I know that no words will comfort now, but this touches everyone and our thoughts are with you. |
Sorry to hear that. Stay strong for your family and for your mother.

Sorry to hear that, I know what you're going through.
Stay strong, for her and your family. |
Thanks for everyone's support.
It's been a bit of an emotional roller coaster. For one thing, the pathologist who apparently identified my mother's alleged breast cancer has backpedaled and now says she doesn't think it's cancer (for sure). For about three days, I'd awaken with this horrible ball of stress in my gut, thinking my mother was going to die soonish. Now I just have to wait until my mother's lungs are in good enough shape for a further test to hopefully confirm the non-cancer diagnosis. :yeah: You know, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess my mom won't be skipping her oncology follow-up appts from now on!! I realize having one's breast mashed in what feels like an industrial press may not be fun, but it's better than the alternative!! My days have consisted of getting up, letting out my dogs, doing various work which can't wait, going to the hospital to be w/my mom for a few hours, coming home to let out the dogs and maybe giving them a ride, doing some more work, going back to the hospital, staying until I'm almost falling asleep or my mom falls asleep, coming home and going back to bed. Repeat. :dead: (My sister and father have some similar kind of schedule). Good thing my boss is one of my better friends!!! With any luck, she'll soon be out and about, soon, and we can all get on w/our lives!!! |
Finally some good news for a change.:DL

Cancer is just some awfull decease, which is not to be taken too lightly.
Whatever the original diagnosis or the new one is the most correct, then yes, it is advisable to get checked regularly. I hope the best for her. May I ask, how old she is? |
My prayers are with you and your mother, TVM. Some don't believe that prayer changes things, so I'll also cross my fingers for good measure;)
In any case, I'm sure your support has meant the world to your mother during this difficult time. You can be proud of the fact that you are a good man.:salute: |

You know, I'll bet in less than a hundred years cancer will be cured w/nanotechnology. Unlike the regular immune system, you could program nanobots to find and kill specific cells, and then go dormant when they don't find any. If new ones appear, they could wake up and deal w/that threat. And the bots could self-replicate. Of course, the above runs the risk of "gray goo." Google it!! I'll bet somewhere in the universe, every doomsday scenario you can imagine has happened (including "gray goo.") |
