nothing wrong with it and its cool that they let you do it. though id just rather click the bridge icon.

Different people play in different ways, nothing wrong with that either! Did you find the mod for the teleporting?

sure its fun for a few minutes but id rather spend my time on the scope or charts (not climbing that damned ladder!).

basically i want to know if i can issue all commands from a hotkey, without having to run around the whole ship.

thanks!

yes, the only moving you have to do normally (95% of the time) is from the bridge to the conning tower (attack scope) or command room (observation scope) or sonar station. The rest (maps, speed, course, depth, status reports, battle station, silent running, torpedo reloads) can all be handled through hot keys.

exactly what im thinking. for me the enjoyment doesnt come from walking around talking with people. and while the interior of the sub is pretty cool, after about 5 minutes i was done with it. im here for the hunt!

I like the walkthrough feature. You almost had that in SH4. But I agree with you, it's really just a cool feature and nothing more. The one-click away stations and controls that we had in SH3/4 are what you need to control a sub. But sometimes, when on a long transit, it's kinda cool just to wander around the compartments, getting a feel for what it was like.

I love the walkthrough feature too... except that darn ladder.

It's not the concept of a ladder that's the problem. My problem is climbing down from the bridge to the control room. Look down just right to climb down the ladder... get to the conning tower... get off the ladder... look down just right... back up... go forward... adjust the vertical angle of my view again... back up... go forward... oh, got it... climb down to the control room.

Oh, that part's a pain. Otherwise, I love climbing up and down the ladder.

But it IS totally believable that when faced with 3 DD's bearing down on you after a successful convoy strike you Order "CRASH DIVE"... and the men refuse to do it because you havent gone back to the cook and asked him "Pretty Please with sugar on top" to make his "Special Soup" (I DONT want to know whats in it) so the men will crash dive in the next 10 seconds our we will ALL become special soup in the Atlantic.

Sims? Be glad it's not Dwarf Fortress.

Urist McGhost cancels Flank Speed ahead -- too insane
A British-speaking force of sub hunting has arrived!

I don't see why people dislike having to dive down the ladder when destroyers show up. In SHIII it was "ah, yawn, another enemy torpedo boat... [C key]", now it's "Damnit, damnit, damnit, get below deck everyone! [tracers buzz past conning tower] Yaaah, duck!".

You do realize that is a bug, right? A bug that's being fixed today or tomorrow.

The same reason I love it! Well put

There is no crew management at all. I thought that it was a bit to much micromanagement in the previous SH's, but they could have made up something else... (make a crew rotation schedule once or something like that.)

Exactly. They could have made it better if other guys would walk up and down etc. We changed the crew management system for this...

I dont have a problem with walking around the U-Boat. I personally see it as one of the big improvements in SH5. For years, posters on the sh3/4 forums have been asking exactly for this, the ability to walk around the whole boat and now that we have it, people complain..:hmmm:

If they patch the sonar guy so we can control him as in sh3/4, you could run everything from the command room, just going up to the bridge or conning tower when you need to.

As it is, I rarely go to the bow or stern, but it is nice to know I can. My boat was recently depth charged and sustained damage in the engine room. After I had slipped away from the escorts, I popped in to the engine room to see how the repairs were going. You could see water spurting from some of the pipes. Unfortunately, there is no damage control animations as in SH4. Hopefully, that will be added in time.

I agree with you on the crew management. The sh3/4 system did require too much micro-management. The SH5 concept of restricting the skipper's interaction to the officers/petty officers actually makes sense, but the present RPG type skills will have to be modded to more realistic naval skills.
