Many voted posts bad just because they could.
:nope:
So it has no meaning to me.

Its very childish and petty but some are sad enough to abuse the star ratings it to take a swipe at members they dont like - regardless of how good the threads content might be.

Many times Ive seen a modders hard work get shot down by the 1 star pussies.

I consider the star ratings themselves to be pretty sad. I don't rate threads, and I never look at the ratings.

Can't disagree with the above....the Grey Wolves were a primary target for years.

Funny thing is, they leave a fingerprint/footprint on the main server.

Best ignored IMHO.

My AI tweaks were 2 stared because.. well, the wussies couldn't handle it. Rather then hear the whining, i pulled it, as of this morning acutaly. :O:

Honestly though, i said multiple times that I, "hit the AI with a sledgehammer". Which is to say it was a rough work, not a fine tuned one. Apparently nobody listened to me, or figured out what i meant. I smacked it hard, and it moved. :haha: Also, IMO, the way i was improving the AI is outdated with SH5. Too old school. The better way to go about it, is through the AI's scripting, not its sensors.

As for end user preference for eye candy, i believe that sentiment to be true from what i experienced in SH4., I also think it's nothing new and has been that way for awhile now. (Edit: ) At least as far as SH 4 is concerned. It drove me nuts.

Aw, hell, Ducimus...
I guess my pleas for you to keep the sledgehammered AI up was to no avail. For what it's worth, thanks for making the game kick my a** anyways. I always enjoy a good drumming.
:salute:

Personally, I find the realism mods to be required downloads. I don't comment much in those threads because it's something I see as a nessesity and not an 'improvement'.

The grafics stuff however is like gravy, so I think they seem to generate more votes/posts simply because of the cool factor.

I've noticed a disturbing trend here

That's odd! I've noticed a more, "disturbing trend" over THERE (points to second tab, "Facebook")

For example, someone started a thread to say that someone was in hospital and it got a one star rating. The vote option told me I had voted, but I hadn't and who would vote a thread like that at one star? Must be the SQL database smoking crack again.

EDIT: Oh yeah and even when votes did work, they were pointless. :-)

The thread rating stuff was broken with the last upgrade, I have been waiting for vBulletin to issue a fix. A couple guys PMed me today about this, today, and I found there is a fix, so I applied it. I think maybe it is fixed now?

If you think there is someone abusing the rating system, let me know. I can see if there is one person banging out 1 star ratings with an agenda, and disable his rating option. I have not done this in a long time, but I think I remember how.

JScones 04-14-10 03:29 AM

Why even have the rating system at all? What feasible benefit does it add to what is supposed to be a mature forum? I've always ignored it because, and as others have posted above, it's so easily abused. And that's beside the obvious inconsistent application of the system - ie, is a thread with no stars less relevant than one with 5 stars, and so on? Should I be ignoring all < 5 star threads? If not, then what's the point? An irrelevant and pointless addition, if you ask me.

Yes, looks good.

Carotio 04-14-10 04:05 AM

Well, it just worked for me now (just gave it 3)
But anyway, I agree with the sentiment that it is pointless for me. I read any thread I please and ignore any thread I please. The rating system has nothing to do with that. The thread title and the opening post have everything to do with me reading a thread.
