I still dont see the version. Just the ubisoft icon in the lower right corner. I bought the digital download so perhaps it is different somehow.

I encountered the error message "en.txt not correct version" or something when attempting to install the 1.4 patch. Am I correct to assume that this means these files do not recquire updating?

When did you buy/download it? I got mine direct from Ubi last fall. That version is already fully updated, no need to apply the 1.4 patch.

I just bought it less than a month ago from Direct2Drive. Im sure its fine. It was probably looking for older versions and did not find them.
