I too am one of the ones who would cheerfully pay full price if the OSP is removed, even though I'm currently not in a position to play anything at all. I bought SH3 when my computer wouldn't run it, and I bought SH4 while I was still homeless the first time.

There are some people laboring under the odd impression that UBIsoft timed the release of SH5 intentionally and specifically to discourage the Grey Wolves from finishing GWX4. I think that's a bit far-fetched, but stranger things have happened.

Hummm ... a pretty annoying sequence :-?

SH3 came out when you had an old computer

SH4 when you were homeless

SH5 when you don't have internet except in the public library, and no PC to run it

I hope there is no SH6, or we will need to send you flowers to the graveyard :o

Ducimus 03-19-10 03:52 PM

When i think of SH4 now, i think of that scene from Gran Torino where clint eastwoods sitting on the porch, drinking a beer, adming that shined up car, saying, "aint she a bueat!"

:rotfl2:

There's still time. I'm guessing by the time OSP is gone and patches and mods are making it better I'll be ready to play it.

Meanwhile I have the money set aside to go to New London for this year's Subsim Meet, so things ain't all bad.

And I have everything I need for the SH3 Ship Names mod stored on my flash drive, so work on that continues apace.:sunny:

There are some people laboring under the odd impression that UBIsoft timed the release of SH5 intentionally and specifically to discourage the Grey Wolves from finishing GWX4. I think that's a bit far-fetched, but stranger things have happened.

SH5 is even today unfinished game... so just imagine how it looked like in September 09 when it was announced.

Why was DRM hidden for a months ?

Simply, with a finished and operational GWX4 (offline simulator) just imagine "sales chances" of unfinished online arcade...

5 years child would understand that GWX4 should have been cleared away from their SH5 path... They estimated that correctly.

How many players on this forum announced return to GWX3 till something huge is changed...? So just imagine that "migration" with GWX4.

Ubi knew that very well...:nope:

For people that don't see that... it is pointless to "elaborate".

If DRM is service on behalf of clients... why was it top secret till January10? Off course, GWX4 would have never been cancelled if it was announced in September09...

A complete non-issue (post above).

SH5 clearly has some improvements over SH4—even if half-baked—and interiors minus some of the stuff in SH5 are entirely pointless. heck, they are mostly pointless WITH the stuff in SH5. Other than that, there was already a pretty capable campaign in the ATO as I recall (OM), and if it is half as accurate as RSRD, it is peerless. As it is, SH4 modding is incredibly mature, there is little left to be done other than slight changes in "vision" of whatever the overall product might be in a large mod.

From an outsider's perspective, some of the new SH5 capability WRT missions, and AI (both tactical, and operational stuff like rerouting convoys) is significant and quite interesting.

Someone in this thread must live on another planet.

edit:
To hell with it, i changed my mind about being nice. Im tired of reading this garbarge.

Adriatico, what planet are you from anyway? Do you really believe that crap your slinging everywhere?

Read this, and guess then guess what, one of your hero's you worship happens to agree with me..

Another thing Adriatico, the manure you've been flinging implies that there are no other modders worth a damn except GWX, and other mods may as well not exist or are crap that is not worth using. Since i've been known to mod alot, i can't tell you how much i appreciate that.

I've been biting my lip on this a few months now. Now im finally saying something. So there you have it.

Ducimus - remember that you can never please everyone - and a whole lot of people have downloaded and enjoyed your work - myself included. No need to go rocketing off the porch because of one ungrateful miscreant. The reality is that one need just look at the downloads to see your stuff has been almost universally accepted.

Don't get me wrong, I am no fan of the DRM, but it's the unfinished game that is more of an issue which both 3 and 4 were as well, but not to this extent.

My feelings exactly. I returned the game and posted that I would buy it back when DRM was user friendly. After some further investigation I probably won't. I expect the modders will work wonders but I doubt Ubi will issue any more patches. This game is such an abortion they'll probably cut their losses and bailout. I also dare to criticize the devs who for all their hard work had a hand in this unfortunate mess!!! ( I know that is a very unpopular statement to make Neal but it's IMO )

If you read this thread - i was asked to elaborate. I am too old to have a personal heroes.

It is not about offending your moding abilities... it is about offline simulation that stood on SH5 marketing path.

Don't make a constructions what I imply... It is very clear and simple what I said.

Talking about people that agree with you... there will be more and more in a future... as subsimmers will not have a choice. Guess why...?

If people don't have a beer or vine to drink... It will be water... sooner or later.

Lack of choice - is miracle selling formula.

I don't think that Ubi just forgot to announce DRM in September09... If you think OK. I won't be agressive...

Rockin Robbins 03-20-10 07:03 AM

Adriatico, I think it's clear you are saying that SH5 was a knife purposely directed at the heart of the Grey Wolves. Ducimus is saying that what you said there is a crock of horse squeeze and it smells similarly. He quoted the Grey Wolves' Jimbuna for support. He is correct. You've been owned on this one.

I just love wackazoid conspiracy theories though!:D
