just what i have to add is that the drivers for the nvidia and ati
aren`t perfect either.

I have a nvidia 260gtx and i think that i have finally a driver
which doesn`t give me errors.

(i don`t know the driver version because i am sitting behind the
laptop now)

go for the GTS250 if you're still looking for a new graphics card - you won't regret! :)
This one is very well in price / performance relation and has low power consumtion in idle mode.
i have the one from MSI with 1GB RAM - standard edition, its my best vga so far and the first nvidia one i bought after many years.
A 8800 as mentioned will also do the job if you can get still your hands on it. It's basically the same chip.

All boxes Green checked ?

Firewall, everything checked except the gpu memory, which called for 512mb on the specs. My Geforce7600GT had 256mb. It had been one of a bridged pair in the XP machine. SO, I thought, right, I will go for a higher series, but as has become evident, I know very little about graphics cards, and when I saw the 9400 on sale for a 'good price' new (har-har), I thought OOH!! I can manage that.

oops. Well, Best Beloved has come to my rescue - my Knight in Shining. Even better, someone had given him a thank you voucher for Amazon for some electrical work he helped them with, so that pays for half of the Geforce 250 we have just ordered. Whooopeee!:yeah:

Gammel - done :) thanks all
