Nah, swap out your graphics card, and it will decide it is not activated.

And then it won't be able to find the server to activate.

And then you get to call and activate it over the phone.

Didnt for me. i just put in a new HD4870, and my FSX game installed and activated just fine.

Is anybody actually able to get a game in tonight? Ubi reckon its only a minority a mere 5%, but I'm not so sure.

Ubi - you suck. :nope:

When I saved a game it didn't synchronize to the server

Why did they even bother saying that? They could have just said "a fairly small percentage" and left it at that. It would be false, but defensible.

The whole "5%" thing is just so stupidly, obviously untrue that it makes everything else they say suspect.

They do suck.

I didn't re-install. I had it installed, and my graphics card died. Once I got the new card and booted up, FSX told me I needed to activate it.

Just the graphics card. No other changes to my system.

When i put new hardware in my computer i always do a fresh install...

Just makes things smoother....

And clears out the clutter.

Yeah, I probably should have done that. But I had to wait for the graphics card to ship, and I was jonesing for my fix...

The laptop just didn't feed my addiction.

I've reinstalled it since then, but I still had to activate by phone.

Like windows does.

UBI's OSP need 24/7 365 connection.

I've been playing games for over 25 years and since the early 90's games have had some form of protection,
earliest examples i can remember where:-
Enter word 6, line 25 of page 7 from game manual.

Thinks have sure got worse now. The internet has made it so easy to obtain pirated software.
I dont like this DRM (OSP). but companies have a right to protect their software. Same as you have the right not to buy their software.

Ahhh, well rodger that then. I just recently had this "activation error" problem come up and naturally I assumed this sort of online verification thing was what was going on, and with this activation error message on startup it wasnt able to do so.
I did finally fix the error though, and it was a registry thing I had to change, but heck I dont even remember what I did exactly.

But yes I too remember a time when there was no such thing as all this, but as I said it's the piracy that has brought it all about. Though I must admit this DRM thing is a bit much, and I can imagine it really ticks off anyone on dialup or some other type of weak online connection.
I myself am on comcast internet, and so is on full time and is THE fastest internet connection there is to my knowlege.
So my SH5 is working perfectly in this reguard, uhhh so far. But im sure that wont help if UBI's servers go bonkers for some reason. That wont be nice for sure.

Hmmm, BTW just what does DRM stand for anywho?

true meaning = Digital Rights Management.

More often meaning = Digital Restrictions Management.

What is even stranger, is how the community frown upon those applying the "fix" for this problem so they can play, even if they bought the game.

You would think you should be allowed to fix the problem so you can play what you effin paid for. But nooo.. I had my account deleted from subsim.

:shifty:

Nice going. Keep supporting this DRM fascism and see what a fun future it will bring you.

You can do whatever you want, just don't discuss it here. Discussing "legal" cracking is exactly the same as discussing illegal cracking. The methods are the same, therefore, they're both out.

So all forms of "legal" solutions are also out? Interesting.

Damn right I do. I only connect to Internet when I want to. Kein des probleme hier.
