I should point out that in my case, shadows are only causing a problem in the control room and when I'm staring directly at the radio dude. On the bridge, with everything maxed at 1680x1050 (and yes, high AA) I get about 40-50 fps on the high seas. So I'm thinking there's a particular shadow shader or light source that is gagging on my machine.
I'm using 191.07 drivers, planning on trying the new set tonight, but I'd take reports of a massive fps increase with a healthy dose of skepticism. I've never seen such a dramatic illustration of placebo effect as when a new driver set is released. With shadows off, the game frankly looks pretty good still, and fps are through the roof (80 fps on bridge, sometimes over 100 interior). |

When performance sucks, the first thing to turn down is always the shadows. At least that makes sense. :yep:
But looking at the shots, interior shadows don't seem that complex. Weird it's taking such a heavy toll. :hmmm: |
Yeah, turning my shadows off made my performance go from terrible to pretty damn good. :DL (It's a fairly old machine!)
