Hello...

My name is Jeferson, Brazilian, living now in Canada, Toronto. I was a programer until my age of 24, now Im 26. I decided to leave my profession and hit the road backpacking, and writting books. I think life is too short to "work to pay bills and have children to perpetuate the specimen". I think life is way too precious to do just that, so I decided to walk all over the world and write my books until I find an answer to "what is life all about".

I started modding when I was 7, (yes, my dad told me a story about how I got a big truck for christmas gift, and instead of playing with it, I picked up a screwdriver, opened it up, and replaced the plastic-fake-useless springs with real stainless steel springs, so the suspension would actually work). I've been in love for games since pacman for windows 3.11, my first addiction was The Lost Vikings, back when I was 12.
http://www.armchairempire.com/images...-vikings-1.jpg

My first simulator was Microprose's Grand Prix 2, and one of the games I played most till this day.

In my youth, I really fell in love for flight simulators, and I've played them all exhaustively. Most of them, combat flight simulators, but the one single game I can say I played the most and the first one that really got me addicted to it, was TopGun. I was lucky, my dad has just bought me a joystick, the famous logitech wingman extreme, back in 1996.

In 2003 I started playing Silent Hunter 2, and since then I didnt want any other game. When SH3 was released, I started playing from day 1, modded it as far as I could, and for many years I did nothing except play SH3, mod SH3 and stick around this forum. I didnt play SH4 at all (not even 15 minutes), and Im planning on jumping into SH5 as soon as the DRM problem is resolved.

I love some beer + b.b.q. + friends, like everybody, and I plan to attend to the next subsim meeting to finally meet in person these nice fellows I got to know here in the forum. Im sure is going to be a lot of fun!

I am Dane from Sweden, 37 years old male and I have been playing computer games since 1984 when me and my brother got our first computer, a Vic 20.

In 1986 we bought a C64 and played games like Gunship!, Silent Service, Red Storm Rising, Pirates!, Project Stealth Fighter and Airborne Ranger to name a few. Hmm see a pattern there? Microprose ;)

Also played some Squad Leader and pen & paper rpg, mostly the swedish ones like Mutant (2), Drakar och Demoner Expert, Chock (Chill) and some MERP. This probably was the first step to a later addiction of MMORPG's.

Been playing simulators since the good old C64 days and lately it's sadly to much Everquest 2 (Ratonga power *squeek*) and to little simulators.

In 1997 I heard of a game called Ultima Online and I played that from 1997 to 2003 (still got the account active though) and it's one of the best experiences I have had when it comes to gaming. The old days were best with its harsh world and unwritten laws. Still chasing that fix... :o

When I am not working or playing games I like to eh do I do anything else?? I need to get professional help... :D

Like music like The Sisters of Mercy, Nine Inch Nails, Fields of the Nephilim, Hocico, Feindflug, :wumpscut:, Tori Amos, Mötley Crüe and whatever else that sounds good imho.

Been a subsim member since 2005 and mostly been lurking here, didn't want to post because I didn't want to loose my Bilge Rat title. :O: Great community and lots of talent here, SH3 has been a better experience thanks to you all.

Looking forward to buy Silent Hunter 5 from Steam tomorrow.

Good evening Matthew, tonight I'm going to be Ethel Merman... oh, sorry. :o
I'm 50 and a freelance graphic designer working from home in the UK. So, I can play WHEN I want as MUCH as I want - jealous eh? :O: I've been AWOL from the forums for a while but enjoying being back. Cheers.

Tim here, I'm 29, living in Manchester, UK, a physics postgrad. Kinda crazy that this is my first post here, really. I've been on the ubi forums for a long time too, long-time follower of the SH series as well as Il-2 and other flight sims. Don't have SH5 yet, but can't wait to get my hands on it. I like all kinds of games from simulations to shooters, my favourite ever game is probably Dwarf Fortress, however.

When I'm not gaming I like to play piano, walk up hills (and back down them), or listen to electro/industrial music and drinking copious amounts of tea and coffee.

Since I don't have it I was going to stay out of this thread, but I had to say:

WELCOME ABOARD, dagamecat!:sunny:

My name is Neil from south Louisiana. I'm in helicopter flight school currently working on my instrument rating. I've been hooked on subsims since I first picked of AoD way back in the early-mid 90s. I've been part of subsim and WPL since SH2 and DC way back in 2000.

Hi, my name is Simon from New Zealand. In the winter I am an avalanche forecast at a ski area in the South Island and in the summer I study insects.

Have been eager U-boat people for many years now. Have been playing SH series since number 3. My foremost intense is the Type VIIC’s U-boats.

For the last few years I have been working on a 1:43 scale drawing of Type VIIC/41. You can see some of my work with the links below.

Hi, I am from the middle of nowhere and I have been facinated by Submarines all my life, built models, read das boot, got the directors cut of Das Boot, and am always finding out interesting things about them. Playing SH from the get go, however I do bore myself with FPS and RTS games from time to time. I am looking froward to SH 5 with the same intensity as I did when I first played the series. Neve modded, always realism:salute:

Hey all! I'm Matt, I'm 47 and live in Ft Worth Tx.

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y13.../Facebook1.jpg

I've learned tons over the last few years here on Subsim, just haven't posted much. I was a career Paramedic in a large metro area here in Texas for over 15 years. in 2007 I was diagnosed with MS, and turned my long time hobby of photography into a side line job. Being disabled, I have a lot of time to be active on the web and play my favorite video games. I'm into sims, flightsims, subsims etc. and I also like FPS and some war strategy games like COH.

I've played all of the Silent Hunter games, and just got SH5 about an hour ago. I've always been amazed at the talent of the modders here, and if I haven't said it before, Thank You Guys for all the excellent work you do!! I can't wait to see what happens when you modders get started with SHV, I'm sure it'll be awesome!

Well, for those who don't know me (I'd been away from subsim for a year) -
http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...pb2006/g24.jpg
Hey everyone, name's George, I'm 25 (going on 26) and live in Waterloo, Canada, though I'm originally from Russia. By occupation, I'm a PhD student in linguistics/communication design, part-time writing teacher and research consultant. My first simulation game was Silent Service 2 that I played on an old Atari PC with my dad back in the early 90s (he'd be the captain, I'd be the XO/navigator). My dad soon stopped playing games and I'd forgotten about subs for quite a while, but in the late 90s I got into simulation and strategy games with quite a passion - been a worshipper (ahem, hardcore player) of Falcon 4.0 for the past 11 years, as well as many other flight sim titles. But my childhood memories of SS2 persisted, and as soon as I saw preview shots of Silent Hunter III, I knew that was the game for me. I've been at Subsim since shortly after SHIIIs release, and got surprisingly wrapped up in the community. I was a minor (but hopefully useful) helper in creating many old mods for SHIII/IV, and some of my work can still be found in some of the current mods for both games (which I'm quite proud of).

I left subsim for about a year due to some rough times and a little too much stress in my life, but SH5 brought me back here. I need to be around.

Otherwise, I got a whole range of interests. I dabble in video editing, design and even music. On the latter, I'm an obsessive listener and am particularly bent on hoarding a collection of King Crimson and Robert Fripp soundscape records, which I listen to for a very large portion of my free time :88)

Happy to be back at subsim and hi to everyone that I haven't had a chance to talk to in the past year :DL

JohnnyMacintosh 03-02-10 06:55 PM

Hey, its JohnnyMacintosh here.. and Im 15 (Youngest person here? Lol):woot:
My dad got me into Silent Hunter back when Silent Hunter II came out, and ive been a fan ever since. I also played a little bit of Destroyer Command, and it was decent.. I'm a major hockey fan, (Go Calgary Flames! Yeah!) and im a pretty good goaltender. Seeing a tanker blow up clean in half always puts a smile on my face.. :D So I say lets get out there and sink! sink! sink!

brandtryan 03-02-10 06:57 PM

My name's Brandt--born and raised in Indiana, but have lived in London, New York, and Miami. The first PC I bought was an "Aptiva" with a 2GB HDD. I bought one game, Mech Warrior 2, and have been hooked on pc games ever since. Mostly I'm interested in military simulations. Spend some time in the Jane's titles, my favorite being Longbow 2, then moved on to Falcon 4, and got in real deep. Actually flew a few hundred hours with a F16 pilot online, going through a rigorous training curriculum. Then to IL2, and the beginning of my now obssesive interest in World War II. After IL2 I went back to jets, with LOMAC--particularly Flaming Cliffs with its ground-breaking flight model for the Su-25. I wrote a few reviews and articles for the long gone (I think?) combatsim.com site.

Most recently I helped beta test, and proof-read the 500+ page manual for DCS: Blackshark--a KA-50 helo sim from Eagle Dynamics.

As far as the sub sims--I picked up SH3 and never looked back.
