I really dislike how the screen for periscope view show the periscope view positioned at about 75% to the right, from left side. :shifty:

Is this positioning due to lack of knowledge of centering items with code so that there is this 'align-to-right' tool that look even "worse" on widescreen computer screens?

I agree. It's just another example of how hamfisted they were in arranging the overall UI. I'm trying to think of a game where the point of view for the player is off-centered like that and I can't think of one. But I'm sure there might be?

But this doesn't make sense in any way I can see so it must have come down to a stylistic choice. It was a poor decision, either way you cut it.

I can also say.
An interface thats looks likes from an old u-boat from 1943.
Or the new interface thats looks like from a spacecraft from 2020.

Er, no he isn't. He asks which one we like more. Doesn't specify reasons for liking.

On topic: the new one.

Oh I just got this idea for the GUI. I am thinking basicly of the periscope layout.

How about a adjustable/movable GUI elements? Then people could move the elements around on the screen as they see fit.

Definitely the old (SH3) interface.
Maybe there is a skin available to switch between those interfaces.

I'm not a big fan of the Imperial Death Star target and weapons tracking view as seen in the video.

mookiemookie 02-22-10 09:59 AM

You guys are mixing up your interfaces. The message screen with the apple and knife was from GWX. That wasn't even stock SH3 material.

While I agree with that sentiment, I think the OP was asking about the look of the interface, not the copy protection.

I really dislike the Star Trek look of the new interface. Not sure if they were trying to reach the iPhone kids with it or what, but it just looks bad for a WWII experience.

I can understand the reasoning for placing the scope view off-center (to make more real estate for other on-screen items) but I think it should have been on the left side, not the right. It will feel awkward since you'll be using your right hand (mouse) to control things on the left side of the screen, while looking at the right side of the screen... sort-of like crossing paths. If I had my druthers, there wouldn't be anything else on the screen (like a map) when looking through the scope. All you should be able to see is what the scope lens sees.

How can anyone vote? Almost nobody here played SH5 so far.

Although you're right about the fact we haven't played it, truth is,
there are enough screen shots available (from preview versions) to form an opinion about the looks.
